1 | 1 | Dirty laundry | pilot | Oct 3, 2004 | Apr 4, 2005 | Charles McDougall | Marc Cherry |
The housewife Mary Alice Young shoots herself in her house. She is found by her talkative neighbor Martha Huber. A few days after the suicide there is a memorial service at which Mary Alice's four best friends and neighbors Lynette, Bree, Gabbi and Susan also remember her. They all live on Wisteria Lane. It appears that Paul Young, Mary Alice's husband, knows more about his wife's suicide than he wants his mourners to know.
Lynette Scavo, a mother of four, has sacrificed her career for her family and is overwhelmed with raising her children. Her husband Tom is mostly on business trips. Bree Van de Kamp, the most perfectionist of the friends, has an argument with her family, who can no longer cope with their lifestyle. She lives with her husband Rex and their pubescent children Andrew and Danielle. A joint restaurant visit ends with Rex being hospitalized due to an onion allergy. Rex accuses Bree of being responsible. Susan Mayer, divorced and mother of one daughter, is the chaotic housewife on the street. Her fourteen-year-old daughter Julie is often more sensible than she is. At the funeral service, Susan meets new neighbor Mike. Susan is interested in him and would like to meet him, but Edie Britt, the men's magnet on the street, has her eye on him too. When Susan mistakenly thinks Edie is having fun with Mike, she accidentally starts a fire and Edie's house burns down. When the four housewives start packing up Mary Alice's things a little later, they accidentally discover a threatening letter that Mary Alice received on the day she died. The four women start to wonder what the line: “I know what you did!” Is all about. |

2 | 2 | Under the surface | Ah, but Untereath | Oct 10, 2004 | Apr 11, 2005 | Larry Shaw | Marc Cherry |
Gabrielle, who has a relationship with her gardener John, fears that her husband will find out about their affair and decides to have fun with John elsewhere instead of in her home. When he gives her a red rose that is as perfect as she is, she realizes that she is much more to him than just an affair.
When Martha and Edie are looking for jewelry in their burned down house, she discovers a glass measuring cup that does not belong to Edie, as Edie assures her. When she notices that Susan has bought a new mug, it occurs to her that Susan might have something to do with the fire, which she keeps to herself for now. Like Edie, Susan continues to vie for Mike. At the end of a joint dinner, an unfortunate act by Susan leads to Mike's dog Bongo swallowing her earring. Mike rushes with him to the vet, which ends the appointment abruptly. Bongo doesn't take any damage, but Susan still feels guilty. Mike reveals to her that he means so much Bongo because he was entrusted to him by his late wife, and she realizes that he still loves his wife. While Bree and Rex see marriage counselor Dr. Going to Albert Goldfine, maybe to save her marriage, which is on the brink of collapse, Lynette is still overwhelmed with the upbringing of her three lively sons. They also act out of control while driving. When she tells Martha about it, she advises her to simply stop, abandon the children and drive on to teach them a lesson. After a short time, she should then collect them again; this measure was very effective for herself at the time. Not everything goes as planned, but for the first time Lynette has success with her children. |

When Susan's ex-husband Karl picks up his daughter over the weekend, there is another argument between the former couple. After Susan wants to talk to Karl, which escalates again, she locks herself naked from her house, and Mike finds her lying in her hedge. In the end, Brandy, the new woman at Karl's side, gives her the apology that Karl had hoped for.
Bree throws a dinner in memory of her late friend. When Rex admits to Carlos that he and Bree are going to a marriage counselor about difficulties in their marriage, Bree is so outraged that she embarrasses her husband to the bone in front of her friends. Rex then moves into a motel. Lynette, who has just left the children to her husband Tom, who has just returned from a business trip, to attend dinner at Bree's, is pleased to see on her return that he sees what she does every day in a different light. Meanwhile, Gabrielle is struggling with the demands of little Ashley, who has just moved into the next house and surprised her and John while kissing. In order to keep her from telling something, she feels compelled to respond to Ashley's ever-renewed wishes. Zach Young, Mary Alice's son, is outraged that his father Paul hasn't even published an obituary notice in the newspaper and accuses him of looking like he has already forgotten about Mary Alice. Later he finds the revolver with which his mother shot herself. Meanwhile, Bree comes across Dr. Goldfine on a tape on which conversations between him and Mary Alice were recorded. Paul, on the other hand, learns from a report on television that the chest that he sunk in a river has surfaced again and that body parts were found when opening it. |

To get information about his neighborhood, Mike breaks into Alberta Pious House, which of course does not go unnoticed. A neighborhood watch is then set up in Wisteria Lane. The police officer involved in the case, Thompson, flirts with Susan, who at first feels flattered, but then quickly realizes that this man does not suit her. Carlos continues to suspect that Gabrielle is cheating on him and calls his mother Juanita to help, who is now constantly monitoring his wife. Despite everything, Gabrielle finds a way to put her out of action for a while. Lynette and her husband Tom do everything in their power to get their twin sons into a private school. After the help Bree asked for fails to recommend the boys in Berkley, she exhausts her sons to such an extent that they are so exhausted at a performance at school that, for once, they remain very quiet and obedient. Only after they have been accepted does the director have to recognize who he has brought into the house. When Bree surprises Zach scrubbing the floor his mother died on, and he implies that Mary Alice killed herself for doing something bad, she feels sorry for her but is also curious to see what's behind hides his remark and does not invite him to a pre-Christmas dinner without ulterior motive. When Bree cancels a second meal because of a last-minute invitation from Rex, Zach breaks into her house and decorates the entire living room for Christmas. When Paul indignantly confronts him, the two of them fight. |

When Deirdre suddenly stood on her doorstep and demanded her son back, the Youngs refused to surrender the child. A fight ensued, in the course of which Deirdre was stabbed by Mary Alice. Paul buried the body in a toy chest under the swimming pool that was being built. However, the couple did not expect their neighbor Martha Huber to find out the secret. Her sister Felicia Tilman had worked with Mary Alice in a Utah hospital before she fled to Fairview. When Mary Alice receives an anonymous ransom note, she shoots herself. After his wife dies, Paul begins digging up the swimming pool, uncovering a toy chest that he throws into a river. This chest contains the remains of Deirdre, and as luck would have it, it is washed ashore again. When Paul learns that Martha wrote the letter to his wife, he kills her out of anger and tries to leave Fairview. Since Zach does not want to leave town mainly because of his neighbor Julie, Paul is forced to stay there. When Mike learns that Deirdre was killed by the Youngs, he kidnaps Paul to kill him. Mike fails, however, because Paul tells him about Deirdre's baby and Mike learns that the Youngs had looked after his son for years. |
