This was the second time that the championships took place on the so-called "bathtub" track after 1998. Around 350 athletes were registered who fought for 48 titles (including in the youth class).
The event was overshadowed by the training accident of the two-time track world champion Kristina Vogel , which had occurred around two weeks earlier on the cycling track in Cottbus . The new German champion in Maximilian Dörnbach dedicated his victory in the 1000 meter time trial to his seriously injured team mate from Team Erdgas . 2012 .
