Đurađ Vasić ( Serbian-Cyrillic Ђурађ Васић; born September 19, 1956 in Stari Lec , SR Serbia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav football and Olympic team player and today's Serbian football coach . Since 2016 he has been a U17 coach in the youth department of MSV Duisburg .

At all of his stations, Vasić had taken over the teams in the relegation battle, for example 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 , SV Wehen Wiesbaden and SV Elversberg . He was only relegated once in 27 seasons as a coach. At the same time he achieved several climbs. In the mid-2000s, he was one of the most successful regional league coaches in Germany .

player

Vasić came to Germany in 1984 . He had previously played for the Yugoslav second division club FK Novi Sad from 1975 to 1984. With his team Vasić was 1976 and 1979 third and 1977 runner-up in the 2nd Yugoslav League. He also reached the semifinals of the Yugoslav Cup with Novi Sad in the 1976/77 season , but failed 2-0 at the eventual winner Hajduk Split . Vasić played 17 games for the Yugoslav Olympic team . He was used in the 1984/85 season as a defender at VfR Bürstadt in the 2nd Bundesliga (24 games, three goals, including two penalties ). After the descent of Bürstadt , he played there for another seven years in the Oberliga Hessen , the then third level of the league system.

Trainer

First experiences and mastery (1992–2000)

After he had finished his playing career in Bürstadt , he became a coach in the Oberliga Hessen in 1992 , the third level of the league system at that time. In the debut season 1992/1993 he managed to stay up . At the beginning of 1994 he left the club and continued his career from February at FC Schweinfurt 05 in the Bayern League , which has now been in the fourth highest division since the reform in 1994. In painstaking development work ( 1995 / 5th place , 1996 / 3rd place , 1997 / 5th place ) Vasić led the club to the championship in 1998 . During this period he introduced the then 17-year-old Bernd Korzynietz and Ralf Keidel to professional football. After you had occupied the respectable fifth place as a climber in 1999 , the regional leagues were reduced from four seasons to two. As eleventh in the table, he qualified for the new southern season in 2000 .

Promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga (2000–2002)

Unexpectedly, Vasić and his team were able to establish themselves in the top group in 2001 , even as leaders for many match days. At the end of the season, a 1-1 draw at Wacker Burghausen in the last game of the season was enough to prevail in the remote duel against Eintracht Trier and, as the second-placed amateurs of VfB Stuttgart were not eligible for promotion , to move up to third in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the 2001/02 second division season , his team could stay away from the relegation ranks in the first half of the season. In the middle of the high phase, he experienced his first setback with the Lower Franconia , which was followed by others. Several times they conceded a goal exactly in the 44th minute of the game and had to go into the half-time break in frustration, which ultimately wore the team down. If they wintered with four points ahead of the relegation relegation place , they finally came second to last and were relegated. Despite the relegation, they held on to Vasić for the time being. But when the team was relegated to the regional league in autumn 2002 , he was dismissed in Schweinfurt in September 2002 after eight years .

Success with labor and return to the Bundesliga (2002-2006)

From November 2002 he coached SV Wehen in the Regionalliga Süd. The club had previously been relegated under Gerd Schwickert . In 2003 and 2004 , his team reached seventh place in the table, while in 2005 promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was just missed with third place and a missing point. 2006 reached Vasić again the third place in the table in the Regionalliga Süd and made with Maximilian Nicu also the top scorer . It was one of the most successful periods for him, but also for the club. To this day, Vasić is the most successful coach in Wehen Regional League history. After taking over the club, he experienced 133 regional league games on the coaching bench with the Taunussteiners , in which he achieved an impressive 63 wins (36 draws, 34 defeats).

Back to the 2nd Bundesliga (2006-2007)

On October 15, 2006, the relegation-threatened Eintracht Braunschweig signed him as the successor to the hapless Michael Krüger . However, after five defeats in five games and 2:13 goals, Vasić was dismissed as a coach after exactly 30 days after he had denied the team's qualification for the second division after his first game as a coach. According to Vasić's judgment, the team is not able to play the kind of football you have to play in the second division. He also caused a stir because he described the players as too small. Rolf Dockter, who brought Vasić to succeed Krüger, shared this view and described the actors as pygmies . At the end of the 2006/07 season , the Braunschweiger actually took the last place in the table with a total of only four wins and 23 points and were relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2007/08 season Vasić was again the coach of the promoted team from labor , as his predecessor Christian Hock did not have the necessary coaching license for the 2nd Bundesliga.

Disagreements with labor pains (2007-2008)

He made his debut on August 12, 2007 with a 3-2 away win against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . The following game was played in the Commerzbank-Arena because the local Brita-Arena was not yet completed. There he and his team achieved a 1-1 draw against fellow promoted VfL Osnabrück on the second match day . On August 20, 2007 they surprisingly parted ways with immediate effect from Vasić, although the club had started the season well. Internal discrepancies were given as reasons. Ten days earlier, manager Bruno Hübner had already been dismissed from the club's management, whose duties Vasić had also taken over as interim sports manager . A month later he sued his lawyer Christoph Schickhardt at the Wiesbaden labor court against the extraordinary dismissal with a dismissal protection suit , which led to an arbitration procedure at the German Football Association (DFB) and then to a court case . In early 2008, both parties managed to come to an out-of-court settlement. The amount in dispute had been put at around 300,000 euros.

SV Elversberg (2008-2009)

From March 2008 Vasić coached the relegation-threatened SV Elversberg in the Regionalliga Süd. He took over the team from Brent Goulet. Even before the 2007/08 season , Elversberg's goal was promotion to the future new 3rd division . At the end of the season Vasić managed to stay in the league with 15th place and thus remain in the then new fourth-class Regionalliga West , in which he reached 11th place in 2009 . Shortly before, won in April 2009, the association Vasic for the first time the Saarland Cup and met in the first round of the German Cup 2009/10 to SC Freiburg . SV Elversberg lost 2-0 to the then promoted Bundesliga team. On October 6, 2009, the contract with him was terminated after a series of narrow defeats.

Promotion, dual function and youth coach (since 2011)

In July 2011 he took over the 2nd team of MSV Duisburg from Markus Reiter . In the 2011/12 season , Vasić and his team managed to move up directly from the NRW League to the Regionalliga West with third place . His team caused a stir, especially in the second half of the season, by winning 12 out of 15 games. With 30 goals conceded, the defense was the third best in the NRW League. After the season he gave up the position of coach for private reasons.

On July 1, 2012, he became the sporting director of the SV Wiesbaden club , where he signed a three-year contract. Under Vasić, the club was promoted to the Hessen League in 2013 . In October 2013 he took over the coaching position from player-coach Sascha Amstätter in Wiesbaden , where he should now lead SV Wiesbaden out of the basement, which he achieved with a 9th place at the end of the 2013/14 season . Although he achieved a 5th place in 2015 and a 7th place in 2016 , the Wiesbaden team announced in February 2016 that they would voluntarily withdraw at the end of the season due to financial problems.

In July 2016 he took over the position of U17 coach at MSV Duisburg. In his debut season 2016/17 as a youth coach, Vasić achieved a solid 7th place in a strong B-Junior Bundesliga West. In the following season 2017/18 the U17s under Vasić managed a surprising relegation at the last minute, which was hardly to be expected. The U17s had to wait almost 200 days for their first win of the season. Only in the 14th attempt did it work with a 3-0 away win against Alemannia Aachen . With now six points on the account, the MSV was still seven points behind the first non-relegation place and only scored six goals. After a strong final spurt, “ Meiderich's U17 miracle ” succeeded.
