El Rosal is a company incorporated only in 1997 municipality ( municipio ) in Colombia in the province Sabana Occidente in the department of Cundinamarca , which for metropolitan Bogotá belongs.

El Rosal is located in Cundinamarca , in the province of Sabana Occidente , about 20 km from Bogotá at an altitude of 2685  m above sea level. NN and has an average temperature of 12 to 14 ° C. The municipality is bordered to the northeast by Subachoque , to the northwest by San Francisco , to the south by Madrid and to the southwest by Facatativá .

The municipality of El Rosal has 18,847 inhabitants, of which 13,600 live in the urban part ( cabecera municipal ) of the municipality (as of 2019).

The El Rosal Monastery of the Mission Benedictines, founded in 1962, is located in the parish .

history

In the area of today's community of El Rosal lived before the arrival of the Spaniards indigenous people of the Muisca . The present place was founded by the building of a church in 1903. Before, there had only been scattered houses, courtyards and fincas in the area. El Rosal was declared a municipality in 1997.

economy

The main industry of El Rosal is the growing of ornamental plants , in which 80% of the population of the municipality is employed.
