history
The place is first mentioned in 1529 as "the misery" ( Middle High German : ellende - the other). In 1816 Elend belonged to the Dippoldiswalde office , from 1856 to 1875 to the Dippoldiswalde court office, then to the office of the same name . On July 1, 1950, Elend was incorporated into neighboring Ulberndorf. Two years later, misery became part of the Dippoldiswalde district , which emerged from the administration. In 1973 Ulberndorf and Elend were incorporated into Dippoldiswalde. The district of Dippoldiswalde and the district of Freital merged in 1994 and henceforth formed the Weißeritzkreis , to which Elend belonged until the merger with the district of Saxon Switzerland to form the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains.
