Last year Edinburgh Capitals had to withdraw from the league after the lease with the Murrayfield Ice Rink was not extended. The admission of the successor club Murrayfield Racers (named after the former Murrayfield Racers ) was refused by the EIHL. The Hull Pirates were preparing to apply for membership but postponed their plan for 12 months.

The regular season is played as a triple round (60 games per team). The first place becomes British Champion. The eight best-placed teams qualify for the playoffs in which the playoff winner is played out. Each team receives two points for a victory after regular playing time and after overtime, one point for a defeat after overtime or shootout and zero points for a defeat after normal playing time.
