Ernst Heinrich Leopold von Kesteloot (born September 12, 1778 in Bromberg , † October 21, 1847 in Elbing ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 14th Infantry Brigade .

Life

The Kesteloot family comes from the Netherlands and emigrated to Prussia . During the Silesian wars fought the Staff Captain Isaac of Kesteloot († 4 September 1757) from Gdansk in the Dragoon Regiment "Old-Württemberg" .

Ernst was the son of Johann Ephraim von Kesteloot (* 1741; † September 5, 1803) and his wife Anna Katharina Henriette, born von Ehmann (* 1745). The father was a captain and company commander in the III. Battalion of the “de Courbière” infantry regiment . Military career

Kesteloot entered on April 1, 1794 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Wildau" of the Prussian army . During the campaign in Poland he fought in battle near Magnuszewo and advanced to secondary lieutenant by the end of October 1796 . In the Fourth Coalition War , Kesteloot fought near Preußisch Eylau , Wackern and Königsberg . On May 27, 1807, he became lieutenant prime minister .

After the Treaty of Tilsit , he was transferred to the 3rd East Prussian Infantry Regiment on January 31, 1808 and awarded the Pour le Mérite order on July 15, 1809 for his work at Prussian Eylau. Kesteloot married on March 27, 1810 in Elbing Luise Klugmann (born September 30, 1788, † December 25, 1866), the youngest daughter of the merchant Klugmann from Marienburg. The couple remain without children. After the general's death, the widow received 500 thalers from King Friedrich Wilhelm IV on January 20, 1848 as support.
