Erotica is a pop song by Madonna . The song was released on October 1, 1992 as a lead single from their album of the same name .

history

Erotica was written by Madonna and Shep Pettibone . There are three different versions: the demo version, the album version and the erotic version that came with the 1992 book SEX . Pettibone's idea was to use lines of text from the book in this version of the song. The album version includes a sample of the 1974 hit Jungle Boogie by Kool & the Gang .

Upon release, there was yet another controversy surrounding the song's sexual content, similar to Justify My Love . The Vatican banned Madonna from entering the country and banned her music from the radio.

success

Erotica was the first lead single from a Madonna album since 1983 that did not reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 . It reached number three on the US charts, number three in Great Britain and number 13 in Germany . The song was first used on Madonna's World Tour The Girlie Show in 1993 and on Madonna's Confessions Tour and in the film Filth and Wisdom , which she directed.
