Fabienne Koenigstein ( born Amrhein * 25. November 1992 in Wiesloch ) is a German athlete , focusing on long-distance running to the Marathon has specialized and cross-country races completed.

career path

Königstein graduated from high school at Ottheinrich-Gymnasium in 2012 as the best of his year in Wiesloch with an average that is mathematically better than the 1.0 on the certificate. Then she had a one-year sports scholarship in the USA.

She completed her bachelor's degree in 2016 in the standard period of study with a grade of 1.1 and is a student in molecular biology (Molecular Biosciences / Cancer Biology) for a master's degree at the German Cancer Research Center at Heidelberg University .

Athletic career

Königstein came to athletics at the age of four and a half, initially pursuing various disciplines, and only ten years later did she specialize in running. Since her first participation in 2008 at the national level at the German Youth Championships over 400 meter hurdles , Königstein has regularly participated in national and international competitions. In 2009 she was eliminated from the qualification at the 1,500 meter run and was then successful in the German U20 championships in 2010 and 2011 with a third place each.

In the high school year 2012, Königstein became German cross-country champion with the U23 team. When she dropped out in the final competition of her US sports scholarship in the 1500 meters in 2013 and quickly started the 5000 meter run , in which she crossed the finish line after 17 minutes, Königstein suspected that she would have better chances in the long-distance run in the future . Only a few days after the end of her stay in the USA, she took bronze over 5000 meters at the German U23 championships with a personal best of 16: 52.60 minutes and immediately took fifth place at the German championships . Königstein celebrated her debut in the jersey of the German Athletics Association (DLV) at the European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade with a fifth place in the U23 team. In 2013 she also became German university runner-up in cross-country skiing .

In 2014, Königstein came in sixth at the German Indoor Championships in the 3000 meter run and at the German Championships over 5000 meters. In cross-country she became German university champion and came fourth in the German cross-country championships with the U23 team and fifth in the individual ranking. After their national team premiere last year, Königstein has now won fourth place with the U23 team at the European Cross Country Championships .

In 2015, Königstein became German university hall champion over 3000 meters during the indoor season and took fifth place at the German indoor championships . At the German University Championships she came third over 1500 meters and was again German University Champion in the cross-country run. At the German Championships Königstein reached sixth place over 5000 meters and came fifth with the team at the German Cross Country Championships and won bronze in the individual standings.

In 2016 she did her bachelor's degree and was successful in the 10 km road run as a German university champion and with a seventh place in the German road running championships . At the European Cross Country Championships , she came in seventh place with the team and achieved her best result in the individual ranking with a 20th place.

In 2017, Königstein expanded its range of services and had its most successful year to date. In the indoor season she took third place over 3000 meters at the German University Hall Championships and achieved sixth place at the German Indoor Championships . At the German University Championships, she won two more championship titles, over 3000 meters and the half marathon . At the German championships , Königstein came in seventh place over 5000 meters and was German cross-country runner-up . At the beginning of May 2017 at the Gutenberg Marathon in Mainz she not only improved the course record in the half marathon by more than six minutes when Königstein crossed the finish line after 1:13:11 hours with the fourth fastest German half marathon time of the year, but was also 17 seconds faster than that Norm for the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taiwan, where it came in sixth. The to date six-time German university champion had her premiere at the Berlin Marathon in September on the full marathon distance and ran in adverse weather conditions in a world-class field in 2:34:14 hours to eleventh place. With this, Königstein also created the team standard for the 2018 European Championships in Berlin .

At the Düsseldorf Marathon on April 29, 2018, the then 25-year-old was German marathon champion in 2:32:34 hours. She was nominated by the DLV for the European Cup as part of the European Athletics Championships 2018 , where she finished eleventh as the best German in 2:33:44 hours. On November 1st, Königstein improved Anna Hahner's record in Baden over 10 km at the Hockenheimring race by one second to 33:23 minutes. At the end of November, Königstein qualified third at the cross-country run in Darmstadt for the European cross-country championships in Tilburg , where she finished 19th two weeks later and won bronze with the team. On December 31, 2018, she won the traditional New Year's Eve run from Werl to Soest in the women's category, as in the previous year .

Club affiliations and trainers

After more than ten years in the care of coach Christian Stang, Königstein switched to Wolfgang Heinig in May 2020 . She starts for MTG Mannheim . Before that she was with TSG Wiesloch and from 2001 to 2006 with SG Nussloch .
