Buildings

Chapel of All Saints

The interior of the chapel

The "Chapel of All Saints", also called "Feldner Kirchl", goes back to a previous building from the 18th century, which was renovated in 1801 and consecrated on September 29, 1801 by Matreier Vice Dean Georg Brandstätter. The large, baroque building has a striking facade tower and a high-quality inventory.

The chapel has a rectangular floor plan with two large rectangular windows each in the longitudinal walls, with the chapel tower with a mighty onion dome in front on the entrance side. The entrance leads through the tower into the chapel room, with the inscription “ANNO 1734” above the simple rectangular portal. The tower itself also has beveled corners, the covings as well as the portal and window reveals were executed with white plaster framing. The flat gable roof over the chapel room, like the tower roof, has a clapboard covering, the onion dome is crowned by a ball, cross and weather valve.

The interior was heavily lighted and executed with a flat barrel vault over a profile cornice. The interior also has a curved mirror framed by a stucco frame. The baroque altar dates from the first half of the 18th century, was made of wood and has a blue-green marble frame as well as gold-plated ornamental parts. The structure of the altar is characterized by twisted double columns entwined with vine tendrils, which support a swinging entablature and a richly decorated volute extension with festoons and garlands. Between the double columns there are also two late Gothic figures from around 1515, depicting St. Rupert on the left and St. Virgil on the right , while the altar painting in oil on canvas shows all the saints before the Trinity . The figures of the saints may come from the former parish church in Matrei. The altar is also flanked by figures of St. Chrysanth and St. Florian , while Archangel Michael and a group of guardian angels are enthroned above the exodus . Other interior fittings are the wooden chairs with curved cheeks, late Baroque paintings of the Stations of the Cross by Johann Renzler from 1796, as well as other images and a lecture cross.

Elementary school field

In addition to the elementary school in Markt Matrei, four of the surrounding Rotten had their own elementary schools. The elementary school in Feld was the oldest. As early as 1796, “Unterm Klausenwald” was rented a room for lessons that 40 children from Feld, Mattersberg, Huben-Moos and Klausen attended. In 1820, 71 children were already attending the elementary school in Feld, of which only 59 were required to attend school. Due to the great demand, negotiations began in 1839 about the construction of their own school, with Feld, Mattersberg, Huben and Moos, which at that time housed 50 households, finally agreed on a new building. In 1842 the single-storey wooden building could be moved into and offered space for 60 children. As recently as 1856, the schoolhouse was rated as the best schoolhouse in the rear Iseltal in an inspection report. As a result, the number of pupils fluctuated greatly, in 1857 37 pupils attended the elementary school, later the pupil numbers rose to 90 children.

After the Felder elementary school burned down on August 9, 1932, a temporary school was set up in the parlor of the Unterholzer farm. The elementary school was rebuilt in a very short time and a service apartment was provided on the upper floor. After the establishment of the elementary schools in Huben in 1921, the number of pupils continued to decline. In 1971 the elementary school in Feld was finally closed.
