Finsterweiling is a district of the city of Velburg in the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate in Bavaria .
Geographical location
The village is located in the Upper Palatinate Jura , 3.5 km southwest of Velburg and northwest of Oberweiling in the valley of the Waidhauser Bach, a side valley of the Schwarzen Laber .
history
The first settlers, the Walich family , settled in the area around 1000 years ago. From the late Middle Ages to the 18th century there was a castle in the place that was demolished in the 1960s. The remains of the foundation are protected as a ground monument.
With the second Bavarian municipal edict (1818) Finsterweiling became part of the newly founded tax district (later municipality) Oberweiling . Between 1950 and 1964, the northeastern neighboring town of Reckenhofen lost its status as a district and became Finsterweiling (today's Reckenhofener Straße).
In the course of the Bavarian regional reform on January 1, 1972, the municipality of Oberweiling and thus Finsterweiling was incorporated into the city of Velburg. As of January 1, 2018, the place had 91 inhabitants.
