history
The first documentary mention of Freesdorf dates back to July 23, 1297 under the place name Frederichstorf . The place name is derived from the German personal name Frederik , which indicates a place founded by Germans. Arnošt Muka describes the place as the place of the Frisians . Freesdorf is laid out as a clustered village and was initially under the rule of the Dobrilugk Monastery and belonged to this until 1541.
After the Congress of Vienna Freesdorf came to the Kingdom of Prussia . In 1816 the village was assigned to the Luckau district . During the district reform in the GDR on July 25, 1952, the Freesdorf community came to the Luckau district in the Cottbus district . After the reunification , Freesdorf was initially in the Luckau district in Brandenburg and was assigned to the Dahme-Spreewald district on December 6, 1993 as part of the district reform . On December 31, 2000 it was incorporated into Luckau.

Culture and sights
The Freesdorfer Borchelt
The well-preserved remains of a Slavic castle are located directly on the road from Freesdorf to Goßmar. This consists of a ring forest castle typical of Lausitz in the south-west and an area in front of the north-east, surrounded by a semi-circular wall. Here was a so-called Vorburgsiedlung, which is characteristic of Niederlausitz. The existing fortification and separation with the help of a rampart is considered to be comparatively rare.
Observation tower on Borcheltsbusch
The so-called crane tower is also located on the road between Freesdorf and Goßmar. This approx. 15 m high observation tower borders a 300 hectare moor and is therefore the center of the crane collecting and resting place in the Luckau basin. Most of the cranes can be seen here in September and October. The nature watch offers guided tours from August to October.
