Portugal were eliminated by Morocco after a weak tournament that was more marked by disputes between the association and the national players . A draw in the last group game would have ensured progress, but the footballers from Africa took a 2-0 lead early on and determined the game from a closed defense. The Portuguese only scored a consolation goal and lost 3-1 in the end.
