Garfield County is a county in Washington state . 2397 inhabitants live here. The county seat is in Pomeroy .

history
Garfield County was formed on November 29, 1881 from parts of Columbia County . It was named after James A. Garfield , a US politician and 20th President of the United States .

The county had 2,397 people as of the 2000 census . There were 987 households and 670 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.45% White, 0.00% African American, 0.38% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 1.38% other races Groups; 1.08% were from two or more races. 1.96% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 987 households, 28.80% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.00% were married couples living together, 6.70% were single mothers. 32.10% were not families. 28.30% are single households and 14.40% have someone living there who is 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.93.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.90% residents under 18 years of age, 5.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 21.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.90% between 45 and 64 years of age 20.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 97.90 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 93.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,398 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,645. Males had a median income of $ 33,313 versus $ 22,132 for females.
