The hostage Forst was until 2014 an unincorporated community in the Aschaffenburg district in the northern part of the Bavarian Spessart .

The Geiselbacher Forst was northeast of the eponymous municipality Geiselbach directly on the Hessian border. The highest point in the completely wooded area is the Franzosenkopf at 481  m above sea level. NN . The Geiselbacher Forest was 4.23 km², the smallest municipality-free area in the district.

On January 1, 2015, the community-free area was dissolved. The area was divided between the municipalities of Geiselbach (western part) and Westerngrund (eastern part), with the eastern side of State Road 2306 being defined as the border . A district or part of a district called Geiselbacher Forst had already existed within the municipality of Geiselbach , consisting of the exclave at the Judenbrunnen , which is surrounded by the municipality-free area, and the exclaves in the valleys of Näßlichbach and Weihergraben , north of the Kreuzberg, which border on the Hessian municipality of Linsengericht . This marking or this part of the marking has been enlarged accordingly by the resolution. The Geiselbacher Forst district was created in the municipality of Westerngrund .
