Altötting district

history

In Bavaria, municipalities were created as separate administrative units in the municipal edict of June 17, 1818. They fulfilled all tasks below the district offices, today's districts.

The Altötting District Office was established in 1862 from the Altötting and Burghausen district courts.

Around 1900 the Altötting district office at that time comprised 46 communities and 4 community-free forest districts. The number of municipalities remained largely constant until the mid-1960s. Only the communities of Tüßling and Tüßling-Vormarkt were merged to form Markt Tüßling in 1900, while the Holzfeld community was incorporated into Burghausen and Mehring in 1921 .

From then on, numerous municipalities in the district were merged into larger units as part of the municipal reorganization of Bavaria . In the Altötting district, the municipal reform went almost smoothly. Most municipalities opted for voluntary associations.

Between 1964 and 1972 the number of municipalities decreased to 26. When the district reform came into force in Bavaria and the associated dissolution of the southern neighboring district of Laufen , the municipality of Tyrlaching was incorporated into the district of Altötting. In 1978 the communities of Hirten , Raitenhaslach and Wald an der Alz were finally dissolved.
