George Ștefănescu-Râmnic (born April 20, 1914 in Plăineşti , today Dumbrăveni , Vrancea district ; † October 29, 2007 ) was a Romanian painter and set designer . Since 1989 he lived in Lüdinghausen . From 1945 to 2004 numerous exhibitions took place at home and abroad.

Life

George Ștefănescu was born in the municipality of Plaineşti, Romania , between the cities of Focşani and Râmnicu Sărat . His father Gheorghe came from a Macedonian family from Bitolia ( Macedonia ). His mother, Sanda, née Catanaru, came from the parish of Crucea de Jos, Vrancea county . From 1926 to 1933 he attended high school in the city of Râmnicu Sărat . His art teacher recommended him to the church painter Constantinescu, whose apprentice he - besides the school - became.

After graduating from high school in 1933, he went to Bucharest . For the entrance examination to the Academy of Fine Arts, he took lessons from the painter Theodorescu-Sion, a recognized art personality. In this studio he had the future painter Geo Zlotescu as a colleague. From 1933 to 1936 the painter studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest (today: National University of the Arts Bucharest ) in the class of the painter Nicolae Darascu .

The early years

In 1936, George Stefanescu had his first solo exhibition in an art gallery in Bucharest. Immediately afterwards he went on a study trip to Vrancea and Balcic . In 1937 he spends in an artillery officer's school. This is followed by an exhibition in Craiova with the writer Ion Ionescu, who presents his novel “People with Bukie”. Subsequently, George Stefanescu received the order for fashion design in Bucharest. His professional career leads him to the construction company SONACO, where he works as an employee. He becomes a member of the Romanian Fine Arts Syndicate and studies the private art seminar "ZAPAN", which was professor of painters such as Lucian Grigorescu , Platon Cazanovici and Mihail Gheorghiță . Together with the fresco painter Alexandru Mazilescu (who lived in the USA) he carried out wall painting assignments in 1938 . He also gets the opportunity to visit the famous wall paintings of the monasteries in Bukovina . George Stefanescu did his military service from 1940 to 1944 in the Crimea , where he was seriously injured on his return. In 1945 George Stefanescu attended seminars in directing and set design at ARLUS under the direction of Professor Ion Sava. In the following two years he worked as an employee at the film production company "Filmul Popular - Volksfilm", where he was later to become head of the film laboratory and director of the Mogosoaia cinema laboratory. At the same time he works in his own advertising studio for the film industry . In 1951, George Stefanescu became an employee of the Ministry of Electric Power, where he was director of the country's electrical chain. Five years later he works in his own design studio and workshop for lamps and accessories in Bucharest. When his health stabilized in 1957, he met his former professor and later friend Nicolae Darascu, who inspired him to paint again. In summer he paints landscapes again near Bucharest (Cernica, Pasărea, Băneasa, Mogoşoaia).

1958 Production Director at the Municipal Theater “Lucia Sturdza Bulandra” in Bucharest. Became a member of the Union of Fine Artists of Romania. 1959: The theater director, the renowned actress and grande dame du theater Lucia Sturdza Bulandra knew him as a student of the director and set designer professor Ion Sava and gave him the set design for the play “Când vei fi intrebat - When you are asked” by the dramaturge Dorel Dorian. On the occasion he painted oil paintings , watercolors , drew and made friends with Hungarian painters. These works were exhibited in the theater foyer in Bucharest on his return .

1967 Set designer and costumes for the play "Poetul și revoluția - The Poet and the Revolution" by Vladimir Mayakovsky , screenplay by Valeriu Moisescu and Dinu Negreanu. Set designer for the play "Luceafărul - The Evening Star" by Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea. He performed the same performance as an open air light and sound show on the grounds of the Mogoșoaia Palace.
