Platform 22

Gleis 22 is an alternative club in Münster , Westphalia , which has existed since 1974. Since 1987 there have been regular small-scale concerts by bands, and occasional readings. Platform 22 holds 300 visitors. It is centrally located, not far from Münster Central Station . The concert team on platform 22 works on a voluntary basis.

history

The White Wires (2010)

In 1974 the city of Münster opened an advice center for young people in an old Deutsche Bahn heavy-duty warehouse at Hafenstrasse 34, today's Jib (youth information and education center). This is where the fanzine Aardvark was produced. Since the appearance of the American hardcore band Artless in 1987, events have been held there regularly. Initially located on the upper floor, platform 22 has been on the ground floor of the building since 1989. Between 1987 and 2017, Gleis 22 hosted around 2500 concerts with more than 4000 bands. Many of the artists have immortalized themselves with graffiti in the backstage room.

Recording of music productions

The band Angelika Express recorded their album Pornographie: Eine Nacht mit Angelika Express on platform 22 in the club. The American band Joan of Arc also recorded the album Live in Muenster in 2003 on platform 22.

Awards

Gleis 22 is regularly voted the best music club in Germany. In the reader survey conducted by the music magazine Intro , Gleis 22 was awarded in the category Best Club in Germany in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2017 . In the intervening years, the club was able to place itself regularly in the top ten. In 2013 the club was able to achieve third place behind the Berlin Berghain and the Hamburg Molotow .

The band Muff Potter dedicated the song 22 tracks later to the club , and in 2009 also their farewell split EP with 23 tracks later .
