content

The 12-year-old twins Dipper and Mabel are sent by their parents to Gravity Falls , a fictional place in Oregon , to spend the summer vacation with their great-uncle ("Gronkel") Stan. He has a bizarre museum of curiosities , the “Mystery Shack”. Dipper and Mabel are supposed to help out there. As soon as they arrive, the twins notice that everything in Gravity Falls is pure appearance and that the area is haunted by paranormal phenomena . Mythical creatures, monsters and greedy residents of Gravity Falls always bring incredible adventures to the children. Mysterious books with six-fingered hand symbols serve Dipper and Mabel as sources of information and guides. Ever since they were found, the twins have been searching for answers and the lost author of the books, because he seems to know almost everything about Gravity Falls.

characters

Protagonists

Mason "Dipper" Pines
Dipper is Mabel's 12-year-old twin brother. He has brown, bushy hair and always wears a trucker cap with a blue Christmas tree symbol on the front. He always has dark circles. His clothes consist of a blue sleeveless vest, an orange T-shirt and khaki shorts. Dipper is adventurous, suspicious, intelligent and always on the lookout for new puzzles, which he can solve with the help of a book about the mysteries of Gravity Falls. He tends to think too hard and write long lists before taking action. His hobbies include reading and arcade machine games, which is why Mabel sometimes calls him a nerd. His real first name was only announced after the end of the series, in the replica of the 3rd diary. His nickname "Dipper" he received because of a birthmark on his forehead, the shape of the constellation Ursa Major (Engl., "Big Dipper") has. In the first season he falls in love with the employee of the "Mystery Shack", Wendy Corduroy, although she is much older than him. He is the younger but more sensible sibling and one millimeter shorter than his sister. Unlike her, he can't wait to grow up.
Mabel Pines
Mabel is Dipper's twin sister. She is an eccentric optimist, always in a good mood and open-minded, she is the character counterpart to Dipper. Mabel has long, dark brown hair and prefers to wear colorful knitted sweaters with different motifs such as llamas or shooting stars , a short skirt and a headband. She also has to wear braces. Mabel likes boy groups , slumber parties and is interested in boys. Always looking for love, she had dates with various, sometimes supernaturally gifted boys in Gravity Falls (e.g. with the merman Mermando ), but also with normal people like Li'l Gideon. In the episode “The Time Traveler's Pig” she wins a domestic pig, which she calls “Schwabbel” (English “Waddles”). She has two best friends named Candy and Grenda in Gravity Falls. She is exactly five minutes older and one millimeter taller than her brother, but behaves very childish and immature. Unlike her brother, she is strictly against growing up and would love to stay a kid forever to have fun.
Stanley "Gronkel Stan" Pines
Stan is Dipper and Mabel's gruff great-uncle. Stan has gray, bushy hair, wears large glasses and has a noticeable bulbous nose. He usually wears a black suit, a white shirt with a narrow red bow tie and black trousers. A purple fez with a moon-like symbol on it serves as his headgear . His hobbies include gambling and television. Stan lives in the "Mystery Shack", a tourist trap in the form of an alleged museum of curiosities, which he introduces to tourists as the "world's most bizarre museum". In truth, the shop is filled with homemade counterfeits and junk. At the time Stan moved to Gravity Falls, he was making his living running a wax museum . When the exhibition ran out of money at some point, Stan raised the Mystery Shack. First and foremost, Gronkel Stan is a salesman and his methods of making money don't always seem legal. He runs his business ruthlessly and tough, and Dipper and Mabel also have to help out in the shop. Secretly, however, he is always very worried about the children, because their curiosity leads them repeatedly into life-threatening situations. Towards the end of season 1 it is revealed that Gronkel Stan is hiding a huge high-tech laboratory under the Mystery Shack, which contains an apparatus. During the course of the second season it is explained that it is an invention to open a portal into another dimension, with the help of which he brings his twin brother back to Gravity Falls.
Stanford Filbrick "Gronkel Ford" Pines
Ford is Stan's twin brother, Dipper and Mabel's other great-uncle, and the author of the diaries. Ford looks very much like his twin brother, but has a wilder hairstyle with a silver horizontal stripe, and his three-day beard is less pronounced than that of Stan. The main visual difference between him and Stan, however, is that Ford has six fingers on each hand. Also, Stanford is highly intelligent and, as Stan puts it, quite a nerd. Like his great-nephew Dipper, he is also a big fan of the pen & paper role-playing game "Dungeons, Dungeons & Even More Dungeons". He was the first of the Pines family to come to Gravity Falls to investigate the strangeness of the place. In his past he was once friends with Bill Cipher, but realized just in time that he had only been used and betrayed by him. In a failed experiment, he fell into another dimension, but the portal was badly damaged. Stan, who witnessed the accident, has been trying to get his brother back ever since. To earn money, he converts Ford's research hut into the "Mystery Shack". At the beginning of the second season the portal is repaired and Ford comes back to Gravity Falls.
Wendy Blerble Corduroy
Wendy is a 15 year old girl who works part time in the Mystery Shack. She is tall, lanky, and has hip-length fox-red hair (which runs in her family). Wendy wears a dark plaid, green lumberjack shirt, dark jeans and brown boots. She comes from a long-established family of lumberjacks , her father is Daniel "Mannsbild Dan" Corduroy, a belligerent muscleman. Her mother is not introduced to the audience, but her three younger brothers are. Wendy's character is characterized by a mixture of rebellion, coolness and independence, she always only does what she likes. She doesn't really take her job in Gronkel Stan's shop seriously and does it carelessly. During her free time, she helps out as a pool supervisor and bus driver. In the first season, Wendy is with Robbie Valentino, but separates from him before the end of the season.
Jesús Alzamirano "Soos" Ramirez
Soos is the craftsman in the “Mystery Shack”. He is also a friend of Dipper and Mabel. Soos is 22 years old, very overweight, has prominent front teeth and very short, dark blond hair. He wears an olive-colored cap and a moss-green T-shirt with a dark question mark symbol on the front and the word “Staff” on the back. The t-shirt is obviously his work uniform. He is also wearing beige shorts. Soos is quite clumsy and often seems simple-minded, he has no luck with women and he still lives with his grandmother. He had a brief romance with a computer- simulated girl named Giffany , but broke up with her because of her obsessive behavior. He then befriends a supermarket clerk named Melody . Despite his uncertainty, he stands by what he says and does and supports Dipper and Mabel wherever he can. His hobbies include DJing , pinball , computer games, "FCLORP" (free- running , clever and funny knights in cardboard armor; homage to LARP ), laser tag and food.

Antagonists

Bill Cipher
Bill is the most feared antagonist in Gravity Falls. Its name and shape allude to the Eye of Providence in the Great Seal of the United States , as it appears on the one-dollar banknote . However , it has nothing to do with the Illuminati Order. Bill Cipher is two-dimensional, triangular, one-eyed, and golden yellow. Towards the end of the second season it briefly takes on a three-dimensional shape. He has neither a mouth nor a nose nor ears. His arms and legs are thin and black. He wears a black bow tie, a tall black top hat and sometimes a black or gold-colored walking stick. Bill is an incredibly powerful dream demon who has the power to look into the future and the past, manipulate time and take possession of sleeping or unconscious people. He can also read thoughts, interpret and manipulate dreams, change his shape and move objects telekinetically . It is unknown where Bill Cipher comes from, he can be conjured up like a genie , but apparently also change automatically into the human world. His actual concern and goal is to connect his home dimension with the human world. To this end, he led Stanford Pines to set up the space-time portal. It is conceivable that he simply hates people and does nothing better than incite or exploit them against one another. In Bill's eyes people are just livestock. His character, which is characterized by spite, cynicism and erratic choleric , fits this . He seems to be fascinated by Gravity Falls, however: when he first introduces himself to Li'l Gideon, the viewer learns that Bill has been to town several times, and later that the demon has been manipulating people for eons to achieve his goals to realize.
"Li'l" Gideon Charles Gleeful
Li'l Gideon is another major antagonist and arch enemy of Gronkel Stan. Gideon is 9 years old and quite stocky for his age. He has white hair that he styled up into an overly large Elvis quiff . He wears a forget-me-not blue suit and blue trousers, and due to the fact that he uses pomade generously , he looks like a walking ventriloquist dummy . Gideon is very precocious, arrogant and calculating for his age. He can also become very vengeful and abusive, especially when he doesn't get what he wants. At the beginning of the series, he is in possession of a magical jade amulet that gives him telekinetic powers. Gideon is after Mabel, he makes her advances and for some inexplicable reason wants to marry her. For a long time, Gideon cannot cope with the fact that he is finally rejected by her. Besides, it was Mabel who destroyed Gideon's amulet. In addition, he once found the 2nd diary and often uses it for Dipper and co. to harm with it. His dislike Gronkel Stan is based on geschäftlichem competitiveness : Gideon owns and the "Tent of Telepathy" is derived ( "Tent of Telepathy "), a circus tent in which he performs fake Zauberei- and Telepathieshows to the simple-minded residents of Gravity If the money to pull out of the pocket. He also manipulates outsiders with his played cute and innocent manner. Gideon seems to know a lot of secrets about Gravity Falls. He tries to take the Mystery Shack and the city to get to the mysterious books.
Robbie Stacey Valentino
Robbie is Dipper's avowed archenemy. He is 16 years old and a typical goth , he wears baggy, dark sweatshirts and tight jeans. His black, chin-length hair is more or less uncombed and hangs over his forehead and eyes. His face is pimply and fluffy hair on his chin. His whole demeanor appears sluggish, stressed bored and ignorant and he does not have any regular activity. Robbie's favorite pastimes are spraying graffiti (especially where it is prohibited) and bullying children. He's also passionate about rock guitar, much to Dipper's displeasure. In general, the relationship between Dipper and Robbie can only be described as hostile: Both are jealous of each other because both are into Wendy Corduroy. Although Robbie is neither interested in the secrets of Gravity Falls nor in the mystical books, he can be seen as the antagonist of the series, as he repeatedly draws the heroes into his criminal machinations (such as burglary and vandalism ).
Pacifica Elise Northwest
Pacifica is Mabel's declared archenemy. She wears a light blonde pony hairstyle, mostly pink or lilac colored clothes and big creoles as earrings. Pacifica comes from a family of millionaires, which she flaunts often enough to provoke Mabel or to win the residents of Gravity Falls on their side. Her hobbies are shopping, mini golf and parties. Pacifica is excessively spoiled, disrespectful, snooty, very calculating and precocious. Almost without exception, she solves her problems with money. She doesn't seem to care much about the secrets of Gravity Falls, her main concern is the rivalry with Mabel. What interests her about Gravity Falls is only the standing and prestige that her family enjoys in the community. From the 10th episode of the 2nd season she slowly befriends Dipper and Mabel after her family was protected from a ghost by Dipper. In this episode, the viewer learns the full name of Pacifica. This episode also reveals that she is secretly in love with Dipper.

Recurring minor characters

Fiddleford Hadron McGucket
Also called Alterchen McGucket (originally Old Man McGucket ), is a senile , mentally confused old man who lives on the Gravity Falls landfill and is avoided by the townspeople. McGucket wears tattered leather work overalls and a large, equally worn hat. He has lost all of his former scalp hair, partly due to age, partly he tore it off himself. He's missing a few teeth and there's a plaster stuck to his huge, white beard. Fiddleford was a highly intelligent and skilled inventor in his youth. He created marvels of a technical as well as scientific nature and he was also significantly involved in the creation of the space-time portal, which is now under the "Mystery Shack". A little over 30 years ago there was an incident for which Fiddleford blamed himself. Traumatized and unhappy, he created an energy gun that erases the user's negative memories. Because Fiddleford used the machine too often, his psyche and spirit were badly damaged until his personality was reduced to his current, unstable state. The only thing that remained of his former personality is his inventiveness and technical skill. He now uses both to punish the residents of Gravity Falls for their ridicule on the one hand, but also to help Dipper, Mabel and Gideon on the other. McGucket was for a time suspected of being the mysterious author of the Mystical Books. However, when Dipper and Mabel manage to restore an important part of McGucket's memories, it turns out that the old man was only assisting the real writer.
Blendin Blenjamin Blandin
A corpulent man with very short hair and glasses from a very distant future who works for an organization called the Time Correction Agency . The organization investigates accidentally triggered time anomalies, corrects them and removes their traces. Due to the frequent paranormal events, Blandin is regularly transferred to Gravity Falls to "clean up" there. He does his job conscientiously, but is a bit clumsy and / or occasionally overlooks traces. When he is surprised and revealed by Dipper and Mabel, he reveals that he knows Bill Cipher. In fact, Blandin is owned and controlled by Bill multiple times.
Toby Determined
Toby is the local tabloid reporter for Gravity Falls. He is small and petite, wears a bushy mustache and large glasses. His thinning hair is reddish-brown and stringy, his ears are oversized and slightly protruding. His clothing consists of plaid trousers with suspenders, a white shirt and a slouch hat with a card. Toby is fearful, scared and easily irritable. He wants nothing more than recognition and prestige as a professional journalist. He would do (almost) anything for a few really good stories in addition to high editions. For example, he helps Gideon and the local police officers Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland. He is secretly in love with the news anchor Shandra Jimenez. Since the Apocalypse, better known as Seltsamageddon, he has been called "Bodacious T".
"Lazy" Susan Wentworth
Lazy Susan is the owner of the restaurant "Greasy's Diner". Her left eye is constantly closed due to ptosis ( sagging eyelids ), which earned her the nickname "Lazy Susan" (the English lazy for "lazy" refers to the eyelid). Susan is plump and has bushy, gray hair that she has partly teased up. She is wearing a mauve one-piece and a white apron. At first glance she seems simple-minded and naive, but is very bright and affable. She knows the latest gossip and seems to know about some of the creatures that inhabit the Gravity Falls area. Susan seems to like Gronkel Stan a lot, she even gives him her phone number later.
Candy Chiu and Grenda
Candy and Grenda are Mabel's best friends. Candy is a petite, Asian girl with long, straight, black hair and round glasses. She wears a thin sweater with a tie, a short skirt and long, white knee socks. She is very educated, attentive and rather shy. Her hobbies include photography and slumber parties. Grenda, on the other hand, is very boyish, has a remarkably deep voice and, for a girl of her age, is very muscular to massive. She has long, dark hair that she has pulled back in a ponytail. She wears pink T-shirts and dark lilac shorts. However, Grenda only uses her coarse-looking appearance to defend her friends, otherwise she is rather insecure and fearful. She keeps an iguana as a pet.
Sheriff Daryl Blubs and Deputy Edwin Durland
Blubs is the sheriff of Gravity Falls. He is dark-skinned, fat and has a white mustache. He is lazy and often drinks coffee. Durland is Sheriff Blubs' colleague. He cannot read and generally seems rather naive. He is lanky, has big ears and one eyebrow that has grown together. Both are the only police officers from Gravity Falls and often complain that the small town is "barren" (although they are aware of the major paranormal events). Towards the end of the series, it is revealed that Blubs and Durland are a couple.

Creatures and pets

Buff
Schwabbel (originally Waddles ) is a pink domestic pig that Mabel won at the Mystery Fair. Schwabbel is house trained, very smart and affectionate. The animal has mastered a few simple tricks. In one episode, by eating magic mushrooms, Schwabbel gains the ability to build machines that can speak for him, as well as above-average intelligence. However, he soon reverses his skills because he would rather stay with Mabel and fear that the public will only take advantage of him (or end up on the grill).
Giselle
Giselle (originally Gompers ) is Gronkel Stan's domestic goat . The buck has hazel brown fur, a large, saddle-shaped, dark brown patch on its back, and a showy, bushy lock of hair between the horns. The left horn has broken off halfway. The belly and tail are very pale, almost white. Giselle sneaks around the house again and again and eats everything that is not nailed down. In the English original, the billy goat was named after Samuel Gompers .
Dwarfs
A large tribe of dwarves live in the nearby forest of Gravity Falls . Except for the leader Jeff and his subordinate Shmebulock , who can only pronounce his name, all dwarfs have the same appearance: They have white-gray hair, bushy mustaches and bushy whiskers. They wear large, red pointed hats, gray shirts and dark gray-blue trousers. Leader Jeff, on the other hand, has brown hair and no mustache. At the beginning of the series, the dwarves try to kidnap Mabel because they are looking for a queen. They later help Dipper and Mabel defeat Gideon. They do not seem to have a specific weakness, but they are unable to defend themselves when Mabel uses the leaf blower after they have been freed and sweeps them away. One of the episodes also shows Gideon using a dog whistle to get her under control. In further episodes you see the dwarves sneaking through the city to steal cake.
Lilliputtiner

The Lilliputtiner are tiny creatures that live in the holes of the Gravity Falls Royal Putt Hutt mini golf course and carry miniature golfers' balls through the interior of the lanes. When Mabel wants to take part in a mini golf competition with Pacifica, Mabel bribes the males to win. However, a war breaks out between the various railways and Pacifica realizes that Mabel wanted to cheat.
