Greta Salóme (aka Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir , born November 11, 1986 in Mosfellsbær ) is an Icelandic pop singer , composer , songwriter and violinist . She also currently plays 2nd violin in the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra in Reykjavík .

life and career

Greta started playing the violin at the age of four. Since then she has given several concerts in the classical genre . The singer achieved a particularly high level of awareness, especially in Iceland itself, through the Eurovision Song Contest. Many of her songs hit the top 20 in the Icelandic charts . Salóme writes her own songs, often with musical support from other music producers. In 2016 she revised the contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest Hear Them Calling together with the British music producer Ash Howes, who produces songs for Ellie Goulding , among others . Salome is engaged.

2012 and 2013

On February 11, 2012, she and the singer Jónsi won the Icelandic preliminary round Söngvakepnnín of the Eurovision Song Contest , with the duet she wrote, Mundu eftir mér . The song was originally composed in the local language, Icelandic, but they decided to perform the song in English. Successful in the semi-finals, they qualified for the final four days later. There they ended up tied with Jedward, but only in 20th place. In November 2012, she released her debut album In the Silence with ten new songs.

2014 and 2015

Greta Salóme worked as a singer on the Disney Cruise Line ships from late 2013 to 2015 . She released an Icelandic-language single in 2015 called Í dag .

2016

In 2016, Greta Salóme took part in the Icelandic preliminary decision Söngvakeppnín for the second time . On February 6, 2016, she qualified with the song Raddirnar for the final, which took place on February 20, 2016. She won this with the English version of her title, Hear Them Calling , with which she represented Iceland in the first semifinals at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm . The Icelandic version of their song was titled Ráddirnar. However, she could not qualify for the final of the Song Contest and only finished 14th out of 18 in the semifinals, although she was a highly regarded candidate.

The English-language single Row was released in August 2016, followed by another single entitled Running Out Of Time in December 2016 . Salóme is currently working on a second studio album, which she plans to release in 2017, as she announced via Snapchat .

2017

At the beginning of 2017 Salóme announced that she would give a concert with Alexander Rybak in March . Furthermore, Salóme performed as a pause filler in this year's Icelandic preliminary decision ( Söngvakeppnin 2017 ) for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 . There she introduced a new single called My Blues .

2018

Salóme wrote a title for the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 as part of the BBC's song writing camp . The song she wrote, Crazy , was performed by the Northern English interpreter Raya , but was not chosen to represent the United Kingdom. Salóme wrote and composed the title song Wildfire for the Icelandic animated film Ploey You Never Fly Alone . She will also take part in an Icelandic production of The Phantom of the Opera .
