The Hamilton Bulldogs are a Canadian ice hockey team from Hamilton , Ontario . The team has been playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of Canada's three top junior leagues , since the 2015/16 season .

history

In March 2015 it was announced that Michael Andlauer, a Hamilton investor, had bought the Belleville Bulls from the OHL and that he was relocating the team to Hamilton , Ontario . He was responding to the sale of the American Hockey League franchise of the same name , which was renamed St. John's IceCaps at the same time and moved to Newfoundland. The former Belleville Bulls thus took over the identity of the Bulldogs, including the venue and logo.

The Bulldogs' first head coach was George Burnett , who had coached the Belleville Bulls for over ten years. After the debut season he was replaced by coach John Gruden and general manager Steve Staios , who won the first J. Ross Robertson Cup with the team at the end of the 2017/18 season.
