Heinrich Otto von Albedyl , also Albedyll or Albendell , 1720 Freiherr , ( Swedish Heinrich Otto Friherre von Albedyl ; born August 13, 1666 in Stolben , Livonia , † January 8, 1738 in Hamburg ) was a Swedish lieutenant general of the infantry .

Life

Origin and family

Heinrich Otto was a member of the Baltic noble family von Albedyll . He was probably the son of the heir of Stolben and Aggers, Otto Albedyl († after 1670) and Anna, née von Rosen from the Schonangern family.

He married Elisabeth Anna von Schwicheldt from Hildesheim Abbey (1666–1734) in Torgau in 1698 . The marriage had three children:

Career

Albedyl began his career in 1683 as a musketeer in the regiment “ v. Rosen ”in imperial service in the Turkish campaign , where in 1683 he took part in the relief before Vienna and in 1684 was an ensign in Hungary . In 1685 he changed as an ensign in the Österbottens regiment in Swedish services and in 1687 was a lieutenant in Mauritz Vellingk's regiment in Stade . In the service of Wilhelm of Orange in the Palatinate War of Succession in Flanders , he was promoted to captain in 1689 and in 1691 was a major in the regiment "Wilhelm von Sachsen-Gotha". In 1692 he was a brigade major in the English service and in 1694 was a colonel in the regiment " Margrave of Baden " under the command of Field Marshal Seinhau in the service of the Republic of Venice . In 1696, Albedyl became court counselor to the margrave, eventually chief steward , governor and commandant of the Plassenburg in Franconia . Also in 1696 he changed to Saxon services where he received his departure as major general in 1702 . In 1704, when Warsaw was taken, he was finally back with the Swedes and in 1707 received a German dragoon regiment as colonel and chief . In 1709 he was the lieutenant governor of Riga and was taken prisoner by Russia . Just released, he was taken into Danish captivity in Stralsund in 1712 , where he was held until 1716. From 1714 he was again in the rank of major general and was commander of the Jönköping regiment. He rose in 1717 to lieutenant general of the infantry. In 1718 he took part in the campaign against Norway, became commander of the Värmland Corps and in the same year, during the Russian occupation of the city, became titular governor of Riga. After he was raised to the Swedish baron status in 1720 and introduced to the baron class of the Swedish knighthood in the same year , he received a farewell in 1724. In 1725 he was in command of Hamburg. He finally retired to his Niendorf estate , where he was buried in his family's inheritance .

In the Niendorf Church there is a tombstone slab with the baronial coat of arms, coat of arms and the inscription:

"Resting place of your excellence des Königl. Swedish General. and colonels over a regiment on foot as well as commandant of the praiseworthy city of Hamburg Mr. Heinrich Otto von Albedyll Freiherrn and his family, not to open after the death of the last child in sixty years. Who often generously overcame violence and envy, Has found his peace here after many a quarrel. "

On the south wall of the church hangs an epitaph made of marble , alabaster and sandstone , donated by the son Friedrich Wilhelm, with allegorical decorations and warlike emblems with the inscription:

"Henrico Ottoni LB Albedyll ex vetusta nobilitate Livonica, regum et regni Sueciae copiarum pedestrium praefecto, Caroli XII. regis in untraque fortuna comiti, postremis XIIII. annis RP Hamburg. praesidii praeposito, qui obiit d. MDCCXXXIV, annos nata LXVIII, parentibus venerandis, amantissimis, filius natu maximus Friedericus Christianus LB Albedyll M. Brit. regis et Electoris Brunsvic. Luneburg. consiliarius rei dominicae intimus hoc pietatis et grati animi mp Idem dominus haereditarius in Niendorff et ecclesiae hujus patronus carissimorum parentum exuvias Hamburgo huc transferri et sepulcro concamerato jc "
