The sh: z operates as "sh: z Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag GmbH & Co. KG" and is a limited partnership whose full liability is the sh: z Verwaltungs GmbH based in Flensburg. The Schweriner People's Newspaper, which was taken over in 2005 and has nine local editions, is an independent publishing house in Schwerin and has its own editorial team. The daily newspaper Norddeutsche Latest Nachrichten (NNN), which is published in Rostock , has been a journalistic unit with the Schweriner Volkszeitung since 1991 and is its local edition for the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The newspaper Der Prignitzer , which appears in Brandenburg , also belongs to the Schweriner Volkszeitung and thus to the association of the Schleswig-Holstein newspaper publisher. The Neuhaus (Lower Saxony) office is also part of the Schweriner Volkszeitung's circulation area . During the GDR era, the office belonged to the Schwerin district. In 1993 the communities decided to return to the Lüneburg district. The SVZ is still the dominant daily newspaper.

Special editions
Since 2007, the special edition “Festival Today” - the proceeds of which goes to a good cause - has been distributed at Wacken Open Air on all festival days. Here, visitors are informed about events at the festival as well as the current schedules of performing bands. The Thursday edition of the festival newspaper is also included with all sh: z daily newspapers.
Printing center
Originally, the Rendsburg printing center was to be expanded on the opposite side of the street and connected with a bridge in 2000, but the city of Rendsburg refused. In October 2001 the printing center was finally relocated from Rendsburg to Büdelsdorf , partly due to the lack of approval, under severe criticism , where all the daily newspapers belonging to the publisher have been printed every day since then. It is printed in the order of the geographical distance to Büdelsdorf, starting with the issues of the North Frisian Islands. This sometimes results in a different topicality of the actually identical cover sheet , since with certain late evening events only those editions can be updated, the printing of which is still pending.
The looped shape of the building is intended to be reminiscent of the processes during newspaper printing, in which the newsprint is fed through various rollers.
Public discussions
Reprimand
In 2008 the German Press Council issued a public reprimand against the Schleswig News for violating the press code . In reporting on a local politician, the press council found that the newspaper had violated journalistic due diligence by disseminating false information without checking.
Election campaign 2009
During the federal and state election campaigns in 2009, the Pirate Party and the Free Voters claimed that the editor-in-chief forbade all 14 daily newspapers belonging to sh: z from reporting on parties not represented in parliament (with the exception of the Left Party ) through a so-called stall order .
Free voters and pirates protested against this practice in a joint press release. Both parties condemned the behavior of the publisher and called on it to undertake to fully and fully inform citizens of their choices in all of its newspapers. They also demanded theirs
"Competitors who are favored by the undemocratic behavior of the sh: z through no fault of their own - namely the CDU, SPD, FDP, GRÜNE, SSW and LINKE - to live up to their overall political responsibility and to refuse to participate in the sh: z's press conferences for so long, until the 'fourth power in the state' in Schleswig-Holstein is again based on basic democratic principles. "
The direct candidate of the Free Voters Helmut Andresen informed the OSCE election campaign observers about the process in a letter .
