Infinite (officially inFinite ) is the 20th studio album by the English hard rock band Deep Purple . It was released on April 7, 2017 by earMusic , in Germany by Edel .

Album cover

The cover shows the icebreaker Healy (WAGB-20) of the US Coast Guard. The ship cuts through the ice in the form of Deep Purple initials d and p , which to an infinite sign (English: Infinite ) are arranged. The inside shows the faces of the band members carved in ice, which can be seen as an allusion to Deep Purple in Rock .

Singles

The album has three singles that were released prior to the album's release date. Time for Bedlam was released via YouTube and Spotify on December 14th, 2016, All I Got Is You on March 10th. The third single was Johnny's Band decoupled.

Origin and album title

The first writing sessions for the album took place in Portugal in 2014 and were later u. a. continued in Germany in spring 2015. At the press conference for the Deep Purple concert at Hellfest in France 2014, Roger Glover announced that the new album would be released "sometime" in the coming year. The recordings for the album did not begin until January 2016 in Nashville in the "Tracking Room" studio, directed by Bob Ezrin, who already wrote the album Now What ?! had produced. In 28 days, all of the instrumental material for the album was composed and recorded. Ian Gillan's vocals were later recorded in Toronto in April 2016. The entire recording process of the album is documented by the film "From here to infinite", which premiered on March 16, 2017 in selected cinemas.

The album title can be read in two different ways, on the one hand "infinite" (= infinite), on the other hand "in finite" (= at the end).

All songs except Roadhouse Blues were written by Don Airey, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse, Ian Paice and Bob Ezrin. Roadhouse Blues is a cover version of the Doors .

Thom Turek from Allmusic awarded 3.5 out of 5 stars in his review. He certified that the album and the individual songs are of high quality, which is also due to the harder playing style compared to the previous album Now What ?! more reminiscent of Deep Purple's sound from earlier years.

Charts

Infinite climbed to the top of the charts in several countries, for example in Germany and Switzerland, the album also reached number six in the UK, which is the best chart position for the band since the album The House of Blue Light (1987) means. In the United States, the album was number 105 on the Billboard 200 chart. The vinyl record was also a great success, among other things it reached the top position of the German vinyl charts for a month .
