action

The documentary portrays the musician, beginning with his childhood in London, at Newport College of Art in Wales and his youth, which shaped his political stance through the war in Vietnam. His career from squatter to protest singer and musician, his concerts, but also his crises are shown.

Four years after Strummer's death, his friends and companions, including Topper Headon , Bono from U2 , Matt Dillon , Jim Jarmusch , Johnny Depp , John Cusack or the Weinstein brothers , report backed by numerous music tracks , as they knew Strummer and which episodes they knew had experienced with him. Underlaid with documentary images and film and music scenes, his life appears as it was lived by him.

background

Joe Strummer made music history as the front man for The Clash . Titles like London Calling or Should I Stay or Should I Go are among the best-known titles. He was a revolutionary in punk and rock music because he and the group dealt with political issues that went beyond commercial interests.

The lexicon of international films said: “A loving portrait of punk rocker Joe Strummer 'The Clash', who died in 2002, which traces the musician's career and at the same time does justice to his contradicting character in all its facets. The director makes no secret of his friendly closeness to the portrayed. "

“Strummer's ideas, experiences and successes are the focus of the story, which Julien Temple arranges into an epic adventure. In virtuoso cut pictures he stages the memory of Strummer, brings music and personality, politics and humanity together ”. “A torn, raw, hand-made arsenal of authenticity - the pure substrate of an era. At a time when there is a lack of cultural inspiration. "
