Johann V. von Weißenbach

Johann V von Weißenbach († November 1, 1487 in Leipzig ) was Bishop of Meissen from 1476 to 1487 .

Life

Johann V was the son of Otto von Weißenbach and Elise von Haugwitz . He studied theology and law in Italy and became a doctor of both rights. In 1441 he held the canonical office of Meißen, took over the deanery of the Meißner Hochstift in 1472 and was elected Bishop of Meißen on April 26, 1476. On a diplomatic mission, he traveled to Matthias Corvinus in Breslau in 1473 . He regularly accompanied the Elector of Saxony on his travels. For the first time he used the printing press in the diocese. After his death in 1487 he was buried in the Meissen Cathedral . In the cathedral there is a grave slab and an epitaph of Johann V.
