Joseph Aidoo (born September 29, 1995 in Tema ) is a Ghanaian soccer player who has been under contract with the Spanish first division club Celta Vigo since July 2019 . The central defender has been a Ghanaian international since March 2019 .
Career
society
In Tema born Joseph Aidoo played in the youth of the Sonic FC, an amateur club in his hometown. Good performance enabled him to join the youth team of Inter Allies FC from Ho in 2010 . In the 2013/14 season he was already considered one of the best defenders in the First Capital Plus Premier League and was nominated for Defender of the Year . In the 2014/15 season he was promoted to the captain of the selection.
In August 2015, Joseph Aidoo moved on loan for the remainder of the 2015 season to the Swedish first division club Hammarby IF , who also secured a purchase option for the defender. He made his debut on October 25, 2015 (29th matchday) in the 0-1 home defeat against Malmö FF , in which he was voted Hammarby's best player of the game. This was his only use this season. The Hammarby IF withdrew the purchase option in January 2016 and equipped it with a three-year contract. At the beginning of the 2016 season he was hardly considered, but in the summer he became a regular player. He scored his first league goal on September 12, 2016 (21st matchday) in a 1-1 draw against Örebro SK . This season he completed 14 league games in which he was able to record a goal. In the following game year 2017 , he kept his place in the starting XI and increased his performance again. In April 2017, he was named one of the best African player of the month by the Internet portal Goal.com . Until his move in July, he completed 12 league appearances.
On July 24, 2017, Joseph Aidoo moved to the Belgian first division club KRC Genk for a transfer fee of 1.25 million euros , where he signed a three-year contract with an option for another year. On August 26, 2017 (5th matchday), he made his debut in a 1-0 home win against KV Mechelen for his new club when he was substituted on for offensive player Alejandro Pozuelo in the 92nd minute . At the Blauw-Wit , he established himself in the starting line-up of head coach Philippe Clement after brief teething problems . On October 22nd (11th matchday) he scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 victory in the away game against RSC Anderlecht . In this 2017/18 season he played in 33 league games in which he scored three goals. In the following season 2018/19 he was still a regular player and won the championship title with the team. He played a total of 41 competitive games this season, in which he scored twice.
On July 11, 2019, Joseph Aidoo joined the Spanish first division club Celta Vigo for a transfer fee of eight million euros , where he signed a four-year contract. His debut, he played on August 24, 2019 (2nd Round) at 1: 0 home win against FC Valencia . This 2019/20 season he quickly established himself in the starting line-up of head coach Óscar García Junyent and played a total of 32 league games.
National team
Joseph Aidoo took part in the U20 Africa Cup of 2015 in Senegal with the Ghanaian U20 national team. He played all five games and came third with the selection. In the autumn of the same year he was a regular at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand and was eliminated with the U20 in the round of 16 against Mali .
On March 26, 2019, he made his debut in the 3-1 friendly win against Mauritania for the Ghanaian national team . Aidoo was nominated for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 in Egypt in June 2019 . There he played a group game and was eliminated with his home country in the round of 16 against Tunisia .
