Joshua "Josh" Brown (born January 21, 1994 in London , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League since April 2015 and plays for them on the position of defender .

Career

Josh Brown was born in London, where he played for the London Jr. Knights in his youth . With the beginning of the 2010/11 season he played for the Whitby Fury in the Ontario Junior Hockey League , before moving to the Oshawa Generals in the higher-class Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2011 . There he established himself in the following years as a defensively oriented defensive player who, due to his above-average physique, impressed with physically robust ice hockey. Therefore, he was selected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in 152nd position by the Florida Panthers , although he had not scored a goal in two OHL years and had only 20 assists. Then the defense took over for the season 2013/14 the Office of the team captain with the general, rather he his team in the 2014/15 season to win the OHL playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup and a little later to victory in the 2015 Memorial Cup lead . He personally ended the year with a plus / minus rating of +49, which means that he was only surpassed by Connor McDavid and Alex DeBrincat in the league .

In April 2015, the Florida Panthers equipped him with an entry-level contract and initially used him with their farm teams , the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Manchester Monarchs from the third-rate ECHL . For the 2016/17 season, Brown established himself with the new AHL cooperation partner, the Springfield Thunderbirds , and acted as assistant captain there from the 2017/18 season. Finally, the Panthers called him for the first time in January 2019, so that the defender made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) a little later . Over the course of the year, he earned himself a regular place there and has been on duty since then.
