Juan Piedrahita

Juan Diego Piedrahita (born July 27, 1992 in Bogotá ) is a Colombian racing driver . He started in Indy Lights from 2014 to 2016 .

Career

Piedrahita began his motorsport career in karting in 2000 and was active in this sport until 2008. He mostly drove in Mexico and his last year in karting in France. In 2008 he made his debut in formula racing and drove a race in the Mexican Formula Vee. In 2009 Piedrahita competed in the LATAM Challenge Series . With a second place as the best result, he reached ninth place overall. In 2010 Piedrahita moved to the Star Mazda Series for Team Apex . He finished the season with a fifth place as the best result in 16th place in the drivers' standings. In addition, he contested two other races in the LATAM Challenge Series.

In 2011, Piedrahita received a cockpit in the US F2000 National Championship at JDC Motorsports . With two third places, he was twice on the podium. He finished the season in seventh place in the overall standings. In 2012, Piedrahita competed for JDC Motorsports in the Star Mazda Series. Two second places were his best results. While his teammate Gabby Chaves finished second overall, Piedrahita was seventh overall. In 2013 the series was renamed the Pro Mazda Championship and Piedrahita competed again for JDC Motorsports. With a second place as the best result, he was ninth in the overall ranking. He lost to his two team mates Zack Meyer (6th place) and Lloyd Read (8th place).

In 2014 Piedrahita switched to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in Indy Lights . He lost to his three teammates internally and finished the season in seventh place in the drivers' championship. In 2015 Piedrahita stayed in Indy Lights and switched to Belardi Auto Racing . With a third place, he achieved his first podium finish this year. He finished the season eighth overall and was one position behind his team-mate Felix Serralles . In 2016 , Piedrahita completed his third Indy Lights season for Team Pelfrey . After the 13th race he withdrew from the championship. Three seventh places were his best results. He was 13th in the drivers' championship.
