Karassuk ( Russian Карасук ) is a city in Novosibirsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 28,586 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 380 km west of the oblast capital Novosibirsk , on the Karassuk River . The climate is continental .
The city of Karassuk is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
history
Karassuk was created in 1750 and was named after the river of the same name, whose name comes from the Turkic languages and means "black water". In 1943 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1954 city rights.
