Karl August Friedrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Gustav von Oppen (born April 2, 1824 in Siede , Soldin district , † May 9, 1895 in Altfriedland ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of Breslau .

Karl was a son of the Prussian lieutenant general Adolf Friedrich von Oppen (1762-1834) and his third wife Jeannette, née von Rohr (1788-1871).

Military career

After visiting the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Oppen was transferred to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 9, 1842 as portepeef ensign. On August 18, 1842, he was transferred to the regiment of the Gardes du Corps . Oppen received on January 10, 1843 the character as a second lieutenant and was einrangiert on 11 May 1848th From the end of October 1849 to the end of September 1851 he was assigned to the Schwedt military riding school . After being mobilized on the occasion of the war against France , Oppen became a colonel on July 26, 1870 and led his regiment at Beaumont , Sedan , Coulmiers , Orleans , Jouy-le-Potier , Loigny-Poupry , Artenay , Patay , Boissy-la-Rivière , Le Mans and the siege of Paris . In addition to the Iron Cross and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross, Second Class, Oppen received the Commander-in-Chief of the Bavarian Military Merit Order for his work .

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Loigny-Poupry, Kaiser Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle 1st Class with Oak Leaves. He died a little later on May 9, 1895 in Altfriedland.

Oppen married Valeska von Drieberg (1833–1862), the heir to Chamberlain Friedrich Johann von Drieberg, in Berlin on July 1, 1852 . After her death, he married Gabriele Marie Countess von Itzenplitz (1839-1901), a daughter of Heinrich Friedrich von Itzenplitz, on May 21, 1867 in Berlin .
