Kassian Erhart

Kassian Erhart (* 1948 in Fließ , Tyrol ; † December 25, 2018 in Sistrans , Tyrol) was an Austrian sculptor and sound artist .

Live and act

Erhart was born the son of a mountain farmer in Piller (on the Pillerhöhe between Fliess and Wenns ) in Tyrol. After completing compulsory school, he worked as a mountain farmer on his parents' farm until 1990. In addition, he attended the Salzburg Summer Academy several times from 1976 to 1984 (courses with Francesco Somaini , Oreste Dequel, Josef Zenzmaier and others), and from 1978 to 1983 the "International Summer Academy for Fine Arts Innsbruck" (at that time courses with Max Weiler , Giselbert Hoke among others).

From 1978 he also worked as a teacher for sculpture and graphics at the technical school for arts and crafts and design Elbigenalp and worked there until 1986, most recently as director of the then discontinued free sculpture course;

In 1986 he initiated the International Sculpture Symposium Sculpture Field Fuchsmoos in Piller near Fliess , which he organized and directed until 2005. Between 1990 and 1994 he worked as a course instructor for sculpture and life drawing at what was then the "Summer Academy for Fine Arts" in Hohenems .

In 1991 he finally became self-employed as a freelance artist and established his studio directly on the site of the local sculpture field Fuchsmoos. With this and with the further organization / participation in the Fuchsmoos Sculpture Field, he finally achieved his breakthrough as an internationally recognized sculptor and sound artist , whose sound installations and sound sculptures had gained international importance since 1995 (at that time at the Fuchsmoos Sculpture Field together with the musician Günther Zechberger and others) .

From 2008 he also transferred his knowledge to the establishment and organization of the “International Stone Carving Symposium Pitztal”.

His works are in many private and public collections, such as the Federal Art Collection , the Art Collection of the State of Tyrol, the Tyrolean State Museum "Joanneum", the Römmerquelle collection, the collection of the Diocese of Innsbruck , the art collection of the St. Vinzenz Zams Hospital , the art collection the Hollenstein Lustenau Gallery and many others.

Erhart lived and worked with his companion, the writer Lina Hofstädter in Piller between Fliess and Wenns , and in Sistrans near Innsbruck .
