The village of Kastania ( Greek Καστανιά ( f. Sg. ) Also Kastanea (Καστανέα)) is located in the west of the Greek island of Samos at an altitude of about 350 m, almost 5 km southwest of the city center of Karlovasis .

In the area above the village a lush vegetation with many deciduous trees could develop because of the numerous springs, mainly with the name-giving chestnuts ( Castanea sativa ). Below the village, the residents practice viticulture.

The place gained notoriety through a retaliatory action by Italian occupying forces during the Second World War. On August 30, 1943, 27 villagers were executed because of the resistance on the island.

With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Kastania was incorporated into the municipality of Karlovasia. The 2010 administrative reform brought the former municipalities of the island together to form the municipality of Samos . Since the correction of the administrative reform in 2019 in two municipalities, Kastania belongs to the municipality of Dytiki Samos .
