Okny ( Ukrainian Окни ; Russian Окны Okny , Romanian Ocna ) is an urban-type settlement in southern Ukraine , about 150 kilometers northwest of Odessa , near the border with Moldova on the Jahorlyk River .

Reservoir in the village

It is the center of the Okny Raion in Odessa Oblast . The northern villages of Woljarka ( Волярка ), Nowa Woljarka ( Нова Волярка ) and Flora ( Флора ) also belong to the settlement community of the village .

The settlement was first mentioned in 1771 under the name Okny. Between 1921 and May 19, 2016 she was nicknamed Krasni (Ukrainian Красні Окни ; Russian Красные Окны Krasnyje Okny ; “krasni” stands for “red”, but the name Okna-Roschy / Ошна Рошна, derived from Romanian, was also used ), In 1959 the place was granted urban-type settlement status. Between 1924 and 1940 the place was the capital of the Rajons in the Moldovan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , after which the village and the Rajon became part of the Ukrainian SSR . Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it has been part of the independent Ukraine within Odessa Oblast.
