Kurt Jung (politician)

Kurt Jung (born February 15, 1925 in Kandel ; † April 23, 1989 in Karlsruhe ) was a German politician ( FDP ) and architect . From 1972 to 1974 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of the Interior , from 1974 to 1976 at the Federal Ministry of Transport and for Post and Telecommunications, and from 1982 to 1983 at the Federal Minister of Defense .

Life

After graduating from high school in Landau in the Palatinate in 1943 , he was called up for the Reich Labor Service . From 1943 to 1945 he was a pilot in the air force , most recently with the rank of senior ensign . In 1945 he was wounded near Eberswalde . He was later accepted into the German Armed Forces and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the reserve. After being a prisoner of war, he passed his Abitur again in 1946 and studied architecture at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . In 1951 he became an architect and graduated with a degree in engineering . From 1951 to 1953 he worked in building management and as a freelance architect. From 1978 to 1981 he was a member of the Advisory Board of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation . He was also chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional association of the Association of German Architects .

MP

Jung moved into the German Bundestag on May 17, 1966 for the resigned MP Ludwig Hamm and remained a member of the German Bundestag until 1983 . From 1976 to 1979 he was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group and from 1980 to 1982 chairman of the parliamentary group working group Europe . Jung has always entered the Bundestag via the Rhineland-Palatinate state list. Jung was also a member of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1979 .

Public offices

From 1960 to 1966, Jung was a member of the Kandel city council and the district council. Until 1966 he was chairman of the FDP district parliamentary group and from 1963 to 1972 of the district association of the Vorderpfalz. From 1970 to 1974 he was a member of the FDP federal executive board and from 1972 to 1974 state chairman of the FDP Rhineland-Palatinate .

On December 15, 1972, he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior in the Federal Government led by Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt . After the resignation of Willy Brandt and the subsequent election of Helmut Schmidt as Federal Chancellor, Jung moved to the Federal Ministry of Transport and Post and Telecommunications on May 16, 1974. After the federal election in 1976 , he left the government on December 14, 1976.

Following the election of Helmut Kohl , Jung was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense on October 4, 1982, but left office again on March 29, 1983 after the 1983 federal election .
