Length measure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A measure of length, or more precisely a unit of length , is a unit of measurement for length . The length measure is used to measure or specify the length of a distance or line in one dimension , or a distance (distance, distance) to specify the dimension . The embodiment of a certain length is also referred to as a measure of length (“scale”), especially when it is used to compare several lengths.

meter

Among several internationally standardized units of measurement for length, the meter is of outstanding importance as the base unit in the International System of Units (SI) and is the legal unit of measurement in most countries. The meter is defined by the speed of light in a vacuum . The prefixes for units of measurement indicate by which factor the meter is to be multiplied.

Legend: SI units - Anglo-American units (excluding units that are now obsolete) - Old French units - Old Russian units

The inch (″) -based units, feet (ft), yards , etc. ( Anglo-American system of measurement ), which are standardized in relation to the meter, are still used in everyday life in the USA and in electronics in general. Science has long since switched to the metric system of units .

The Chinese units of length were redefined in relation to the SI units at the beginning of the 20th century .

There were four different foot sizes in Canton :

  • Foot of the mathematical Tribunal = 0 3  m
  • Construction foot (Congpu) = 0.3228 m
  • Tailor's or merchant's foot = 0.3383 m
  • Engineer's feet = 0.3211 m
