Lange Schatten is the 13th studio album by German singer Peter Maffay . The double album was released by Teldec in 1988 .

Emergence

Maffay wrote the music for many of the songs himself, and on some pieces he also worked with external songwriters such as Tony Carey . Jörg von Schenckendorff , Burkhard Brozat , Andreas Magiera , Gregor Rottschalk , Peter Zentner and Annette Hopfenmüller (title song) wrote the lyrics. Maffay was able to win numerous well-known musicians for his album: Bass played Steffi Stephan , drums Bertram Engel , guitar Carl Carlton and Frank Diez , Pascal Kravetz on the organ, Jean-Jacques Kravetz on the piano and synthesizer . Bobby Stern , Eddie Taylor and Thomas Zoller played the saxophone . John Mayall played the harmonica for You're Never the Cashier , Tony Carey can also be heard on the instrument. Lydie Auvray played the accordion with Wolves . Chris Thompson sang along on four songs. The record was produced by Nigel Jobson and Peter Wagner .

The album was released by Teldec in early 1988. In 2018, Sony Music released an expanded and revised new edition, the 30th Anniversary Edition.

criticism

Charts and chart placements

Lange Schatten reached number one on the album charts in Germany and was at the top of the chart for a total of three weeks, as well as twelve weeks in the top 10 and 24 weeks in the charts. Maffay reached the German album charts for the 20th time. Lange Schatten became the twelfth Top 10 success and the eighth number one album in Germany. In addition, Lange Schatten was the most successful German-language album in the German album charts for a period of nine weeks . In 1988 the album was number 13 in the German album annual charts . In Switzerland , the album reached its highest chart listing with position five and was able to place itself in the top 10 for four weeks and a total of ten weeks in the charts. Maffay reached the Swiss charts for the sixth time, and the top 10 for the fourth time. However, the two singles, Game for Your Soul and Dog of War, missed the charts.

Awards for music sales

In the year of its publication, Lange Schatten was awarded a platinum record in Germany. This means that the plant has sold over 500,000 times in its home country alone. Thanks to numerous pre-orders, the record already had gold status on the day of its release.

From August 1988 Maffay went on the Lange-Schatten-Tour, which had been sold out months beforehand and included 35 concerts in 17 German cities in the first section. Both John Mayall and Tony Carey and Chris Thompson had guest appearances.
