The Linspherbach rises near the border of Westphalia and North Hesse in the Rothaar Mountains . Its source is located below the Pöhlskopfs ( 739.1  m ), a southeastern foothills of the massif of Ziegenhelle ( 815.9  m belonging) Hassel back ( 766.3  m ) in the city of Hallenberg belonging and on Trambach back ( Trambach head , Tram Bacher head ) located Trambach at about 648  m above sea level. NHN . State road  717 runs through this hamlet .

After only 100 m of flow in the Hallenberg district in the Hochsauerlandkreis (Westphalia), the Linspherbach, which runs mainly south-east, flows to its mouth in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district (Northern Hesse). There it initially flows through the district of Bromskirchen , where it feeds the Mühlgraben, which is still in use today , of the listed Oberlinspher Mühle ( ), built in the 16th century and 1.7 km southwest (as the crow flies ) from Bromskirchen, and shortly afterwards south along the Silbersee ( ) runs.

About 2 km (as the crow flies) south of Bromskirchen is the Unterlinsphermühle ( ) on the Linspherbach , where the brook crosses the listed Bromskircher railway viaduct built in 1907 on the Nuttlar – Frankenberg railway line, which was closed in this section, and the federal highway 236 . The Fickelbach flows in here from the left or north . The B 236 and the railway line, which has been partially converted into a cycle path, now follow the course of the brook through the district of Allendorf , where the brook passes the Osterfeld district .

After flowing through Allendorf and passing under the Upper Edertalbahn and Bundesstraße 253 , the Linspherbach flows into a mill ditch of the Eder at a height of about 289  m .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Linspherbach is 33.107 km². The longest tributary is the 3.8 km long Fickelbach , which flows into the Unterlinsphermühle from the left and has a catchment area of 2,772 km².

Natural allocation

The source of the Linspherbach lies in the main natural unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) in the natural area Wilde Struth (333.50).

A few kilometers below its source, the stream flows into the main unit of the Eastern Sauerland mountain range (332). In the subunit Hinterländer Ederbergland (332.1) there, it runs in the natural area Elbrighäuser Wald (332.11) along its northeast border to the subunit Medebacher Bucht (332.4) and then from that to the subunit Waldstruth (332.3). Nature reserve

The Linspherbachoberlauf around the Oberlinspher Mühle flows through the nature reserve Oberlauf des Linspherbaches ( CDDA no. 164898; designated 1995; 1.11  km² in size), which is part of the fauna-flora-habitat- area Obere Eder (FFH-Nr. 4917-350 ; 23.35 km²); directly below it is the Silbersee . The area represents a "particularly characteristic and well-equipped forest meadow valley of the German low mountain range with very natural stream systems, species-rich fresh, wet and lean grassland communities as well as diverse forest edge structures." The primary protection goal is "the preservation of natural flowing waters and their floodplains."
