The Berlin urban area consists of 6.7% water. In addition to the Spree , Havel and Dahme, a large number of canals run through the city, so that 220 km are navigable. With 3.5 million tons of goods handled, inland shipping represents an important pillar for the supply of bulk goods, which in the past and present has been handled via numerous inland ports. There are also around 150  passenger ships that use the infrastructure.
