List of German baseball champions
The list of German baseball champions includes the German champions of the German Baseball and Softball Association DBV . There is no German baseball championship for women, they play their masters in the softball variant of baseball .
The record champions are the Mannheim Tornados with a total of 11 titles, the current title holder (2018) are the Bonn Capitals , who won the title for the first time. Five different clubs from Mannheim have celebrated 24 championships to date, making the city also record holders. Other cities with several clubs as title holders are Munich and Cologne .
Post-war period until the Bundesliga was founded
Unofficial championships (1946–1951)
Since the DBV was only founded in 1951 as the "Amateur Baseball Federation Germany", the championships played up until then were all unofficial in nature. Until the foundation of the DBV, the teams were mainly company teams of the US military who played their games in an American league in Germany. The first championship of German teams took place in 1951, but also as an unofficial championship.
During this time, the Berlin Babe Ruth Flyers (named after the legendary MLB player Babe Ruth ) won five titles in a row, in 1951 they took second place.

First official championships (1952–1970)
From 1952 official German baseball championships were held. The first title holder was the oldest baseball club in Germany, the Frankfurt Juniors , with an 8-1 win in Frankfurt against the Munich Panthers . The team was able to follow this success with two more titles over the next three years. From 1956 onwards the championships were dominated by various Mannheim clubs (Knights, TB Germania and VfR) with ten championships until 1970. This series could only be interrupted by teams from Munich and Darmstadt.

Failure of the German championships (1971–1981)
After the first wedding of German baseball, the game came to a standstill, as no clubs within the meaning of club law had been formed from the game mergers in the previous period . Without the association's membership in the German Sports Confederation , organizational deficits also arose. At the same time, the clubs showed no particular interest in a functioning youth development, so that the clubs gradually ran out of players.
Baseball championships from 1982
Revival of German baseball, foundation of the Bundesliga and Mannheim dominance (1982–1997)
At the beginning of the 1980s, German baseball could be revived and now build on a corresponding organization. As before , the championship was dominated by the Mannheim clubs, especially the Mannheim Tornados : until 1994, with the exception of the Cologne Cardinals' title win in 1990 , the championship went exclusively to the city of squares . Between 1982 and 1997, the tornadoes achieved all of their eleven titles that have made them the record champions of German baseball to this day.
Since 1984 the championships have also been played as part of the baseball league , before the German champions were only determined on the basis of a tournament. The first organizational preparations for the establishment of the Bundesliga were shown in 1983 with a two-part qualification round for the final tournament.
