- The last parts of the novel Les Trois Mousquetaires (Eng. The Three Musketeers ) by Alexandre Dumas are published in the newspaper Le Siècle .
- Alexandre Dumas the Elder publishes the first parts of the serial novel The Count of Monte Christo .
- The book Un Autre Monde , with numerous illustrations by Grandville , is published in Paris. It is one of his main works. Taxile Delord wrote the text .

- April 9th : Johann Nestroy's posse Der Zerrissene with music by Adolf Müller senior celebrates its world premiere in the Theater an der Wien . The material comes from the French comédie-vaudeville L'homme blasé (The Bored Man) by Félix-Auguste Duvert and Augustin-Théodore de Lauzanne . On the evening before the premiere of "Zerrissenen", the German adaptation of Joseph Kupelwieser has the premiere under the title Überdruß aus Überfluss or Der Gespenstige Schlosser at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna, but - unlike the Nestroy version - disappears from the program after a few performances .
- April 20 : Ludwig Tieck in 1797 published play Puss in Boots after the eponymous fairy tale will be premiered at the Berlin Court Theater. The audience reacts to Tieck's comedy , with which he moves away from illusion theater, with incomprehension.

- February: The only edition of the Franco-German yearbooks edited by Arnold Ruge and Karl Marx appears as a double edition in Paris. It contains, among other things, the introduction to the criticism of Hegel's philosophy of law by Karl Marx, in which he describes religion as the “ opium of the people ”.

- December 22nd : The Stuttgart city bell appears for the first time. It already reaches a circulation of over 1000 copies after the first month. The Stuttgart City Bell, which appears every day except Mondays, broadcasts continuation stories of historical and patriotic content, announced as legends or stories that have been passed down orally or in writing by previous generations. In fact, the lyrics are fictitious. The fictional hero of the first series is Anton Webercus , a supposedly more than 100 year old man who is said to have written down the moral history of the 18th century in diary form.
