The 1983 Benson & Hedges Masters was an invitation-only snooker tournament of the 1982/83 season that was held from January 23-30 , 1983 at the Wembley Conference Center in London . It was the ninth edition of the Masters.

In 1983, 16 players took part in the tournament for the first time. Cliff Thorburn was the first and so far only Canadian to win the Masters after defeating Ray Reardon 9: 6 in the final. Defending champion Steve Davis failed in the quarterfinals to Doug Mountjoy .
