The 1998 Benson & Hedges Masters was an invitation-only snooker tournament for the 1997/98 season that was held from February 1 to 8, 1998 at the Wembley Conference Center in London . It was the 24th edition of the Masters.

23 years after the final of the first Masters between Ray Reardon and John Spencer , the final of the Masters was decided by a re-spotted black . Mark Williams won against Stephen Hendry and won the Masters for the first time.

Defending champion Steve Davis lost in the semi-finals to Williams.

In the wildcard round, Darren Morgan defeated Andy Hicks 5-4 . Hicks played the highest break of the tournament with 142 points and won £ 16,000 in prize money for the highest break despite the defeat in his first round.
