The 1978 Benson & Hedges Masters was an invitation-only snooker tournament of the 1977/78 season that was held from February 6-10 , 1978 at the New London Theater in London . It was the fourth edition of the Masters.

Alex Higgins won the final 7-5 against Cliff Thorburn . He had defeated defending champion Doug Mountjoy in the quarterfinals 4-2.
