More! Theater on the wholesale market

The more! Theater am Großmarkt is a multifunctional theater that opened in Hamburg in March 2015 . The theater is integrated into the listed wholesale market hall by architect Bernhard Hermkes , which was built in 1962 . With a capacity of up to 3,500 visitors, it is the largest theater in Hamburg. It is the world's only theater in an existing food wholesale market.

The theater opened on March 7, 2015 with a concert by the London Symphony Orchestra . The cost of the construction project was 25 million euros. The building owner and operator of the theater is the Düsseldorf-based "Mehr-BB Entertainment GmbH" with its owner and managing director Maik Klokow . The construction of the theater took 18 months; it is an example of the conversion of functional monument protection architecture in post-war modernism . With little intervention, it was possible to incorporate the architectural design of the Hamburg wholesale market and to redesign it to meet the new requirements. The ceiling structure made of prestressed concrete arches and the height of the wholesale market hall of around 20 meters give the theater an idiosyncratic atmosphere. Press releases describe the acoustics in the room as clearly detailed.
