Michael Hefele (born September 1, 1990 in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm ) is a German football player on the position of a defender . He has played in the English EFL Championship at Nottingham Forest since 2018 .
Career
Career start
Born in 1990 in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria , Hefele began his active career as a football player at ST Scheyern in the nearby municipality of Scheyern . He stayed there until 1999 and then went to the youth department of the predecessor club of the later FC Ingolstadt 04 . There he went through all youth league classes until 2006 and moved to FC Augsburg , for whose youth teams he was active until the beginning of 2009. At the age of 18, Hefele received an offer from SpVgg Unterhaching , who brought him into their youth department in order to prepare him for assignments in the second team and in the professional team.
Change to SpVgg Unterhaching
After moving to Unterhaching , Hefele completed twelve championship games for the club's A youth. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was in the squad of the second team in the fifth-class Bayernliga and became a regular player. The young defender made his debut game in the fifth division in a 1-0 win against TSV Großbardorf on matchday one . He scored his first goal in men's football on November 29, 2009 in a 2-2 home game against league leaders FC Memmingen when he headed his team 2-0 in the 48th minute. By the end of the season, Hefele had made 33 championship appearances, in which he scored three goals. The team ended the season third in the table.
First professional contract with Unterhaching
Hefele was brought into the third division squad of SpVgg Unterhaching for the 2010/11 season and signed his first professional contract on August 31, 2010. The contract ran for two years and included an option to extend it. On August 21, 2010 he had already made his professional league debut when he played the full game in the 3-1 home win over Rot-Weiß Erfurt . Over the entire 2010/11 season, Hefele played in seven championship games of the second team in the Bayern League and scored one goal. In the professional area, the central defender was used 28 times.
Change to Greuther Fürth
In June 2012, SpVgg Greuther Fürth signed on Hefele. He moved to the newly promoted Bundesliga free of charge and received a one-year contract with further option rights for SpVgg. On December 15, 2012 (17th matchday) , he made his Bundesliga debut in a 1-1 draw at home against FC Augsburg with a substitute for Christopher Nöthe in the 78th minute.
Via Burghausen to Dresden
On January 15, 2014, Hefele moved to the 3rd division at Wacker Burghausen on loan until the end of the season . In Burghausen he came on 15 missions; the team was relegated at the end of the season.
For the 2014/15 season , Hefele did not return to Fürth, but stayed in the 3rd division and moved to Dynamo Dresden . He signed a two-year contract with the second division relegated. He was team captain in the 2015/16 season . As a third division champion, Dynamo rose to the 2nd Bundesliga. Hefele had played in all 38 games of the season and scored seven goals.
Moved to England to Huddersfield Town
At the end of the 2016 season he left the club and moved to the English second division club Huddersfield Town , where he signed a three-year contract. In his first season in the EFL Championship , Hefele rose with Huddersfield Town as the winner of the championship playoff final against Reading FC on penalties in the Premier League .
Nottingham Forest
On August 9, 2018, the second division Nottingham Forest announced the signing of Michael Hefele. He signed a three-year contract.
