Club career

Belenenses Lisbon

Tiago Silva joined the youth of Belenenses Lisbon at the age of 16 , having previously played in the academy of local rivals Benfica Lisbon . For the 2012/13 season he was promoted to the first team of the second division . On July 29, 2012 he made his debut in the 1-1 draw against UD Oliveirense in the Taça da Liga . He made his league debut on August 11 (1st matchday) in a 3-1 home win against CD Feirense . Just a week later, he met for the first time in the professional field in the 4-1 away win against CD Santa Clara . In the same game he flew off the pitch with a yellow and red after 63 minutes. Silva became a regular in coach Mitchell van der Gaag's team early on in the season . Belenenses succeeded in winning the championship this season and returned to the Primeira Liga after three years of abstinence . Silva contributed four goals in 31 league games to this successful season.

Despite the miserable start with zero points from the first four league games, Tiago Silva kept his regular place in the attacking midfield in the 2013/14 season . Belenenses was able to collect the first points soon, but it was still very difficult and in the end held the class with only six wins. Silva was used in 23 league games in which he scored a goal. In the next season 2014/15 he continued to make 20 appearances in the Primeira Liga, but only started in four games. Belenenses finished in a strong sixth place in the table, which enabled the team to qualify for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League . In his fourth season 2015/16 with the professionals of Belenenses, he did not manage to return to the regular formation of his team and remained mainly a substitute. He made his debut in the UEFA Europa League on October 22, 2015 , when he was on the field until the 93rd minute in the 2-1 away win against FC Basel . That season he scored twice in 17 league games.

CD Feirense

In July 2016, Tiago Silva joined league rivals CD Feirense on loan for two years. On August 21 (2nd matchday) he made his debut in the jersey of the team from Santa Maria da Feira when he was substituted on for Sérgio Semedo in the 3-0 home defeat against Moreirense FC in the 62nd minute of the game . On the 5th match day, he scored for the Fogaceiros for the first time in a 2-1 away win against Boavista Porto . In this 2016/17 season, Silva quickly made a breakthrough in the starting line-up of coach José Mota and also held this position under his successor Nuno Manta Santos . Manta led the relegation candidate into mid-table and Silva scored six goals in 27 league games as a regular. Feirense finished the 2016/17 season in eighth place.

The 2017/18 season started successfully for Feirense with two wins and two draws. Silva contributed one hit in both wins. Then his club crashed with nine losses in ten games and slipped into the relegation ranks. You could only get out of this with a strong final phase in which you scored eight points in six league games. Thus the CD Feirense held the class and Silva ended the season with three goals and seven assists in 29 missions.

Silva did not return to Belenenses Lisbon after the loan deal ended, but stayed with Feirense. These had made the midfielder an integral part of the squad on February 18, 2018 and provided him with a three-year contract. The team and Silva got off to a perfect start in the 2018/19 season . He scored one goal in a 2-0 home win against Rio Ave FC and set up the second goal. After winning the second game of the season against Vitória Guimarães , Feirense only won again on the last day of the game and thus had to accept relegation to the second division with the last place in the table. Silva could not prevent this with three goals scored and five assists. After relegation, the departure of the key player in the past three seasons was already considered certain.

Nottingham Forest

On July 5, 2019, the English second division club Nottingham Forest announced the signing of Tiago Silva, where he signed a two-year contract. This made him the first commitment of the new head coach Sabri Lamouchi . On the first day of the 2019/20 season , the 1: 2 home defeat against West Bromwich Albion on August 3, he was on the starting line-up. On August 13, he scored the first time for the Reds in the 1-0 home win against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup , when he scored the only goal of the game in the 59th minute of the game. On February 1, 2020 (30th matchday), he scored his first league goal in the Forests jersey. During this season he only missed two of the 46 league games, scoring three goals and assisting four more goals. Due to a weak phase at the end of this, he missed a place in the promotion play-offs with Forest.

National team

In 2013, Tiago Silva made eight appearances in the Portuguese U20 national team . From August 2013 to September 2014, he then played five international matches for the U21s .

On July 14, 2016 he was nominated by coach Rui Jorge for the squad of the Portuguese Olympic team , which represented the country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In the group stage , he was used in two games. In the 0: 4 defeat in the quarter-finals against the German selection , he was substituted on for Chico Ramos in the 61st minute of the game .
