Yuri Oliveira Ribeiro (born January 24, 1997 in Vieira do Minho ) is a Portuguese football player who has been under contract with the English second division club Nottingham Forest since July 2019 . The from the youth development of Benfica coming left -back is former Portuguese youth international.

Career

Born in Vieira do Minho , Yuri Ribeiro began playing football at Escola Os Craques at the age of nine. In 2010 he moved to the youth department of Sporting Braga and four years later he joined the Benfica Lisbon youth academy . In the 2012/13 season he won the national championship with the B-Juniors . He made his debut for the reserve team Benfica Lisbon B in the LigaPro on May 29, 2015 (46th matchday) in a 2-1 home win against Vitória Guimarães B , when he was in the starting lineup. In the second half of the following season 2015/16 , he made it into the starting line-up to replace the injured Pedro Rebocho and played 16 league games. On December 14, 2016, he made his debut in the 3-0 away win against Real SC in the Taça de Portugal in the first team. In this 2016/17 season , the left full-back completed 30 league appearances for the reserve in the second-highest Portuguese division and two cup appearances for the first team.

On June 30, 2017, Yuri Ribeiro moved to the first division club Rio Ave FC on loan for the entire 2017/18 season . On August 7, 2017 (1st match day) he made his debut in a 1-0 home win against Belenenses Lisbon for the club from the northern Portuguese city of Vila do Conde . On January 21, 2018, he scored his first goal in Portuguese professional football in a 2-0 home win against Boavista Porto . In this 2017/18 season he played in 25 league games, in which he scored one goal and assisted five more goals.

For the next 2018/19 season , Ribeiro returned to Benfica and signed a five-year deal. For his league debut in the first team, however, it was not enough this season and he was only used in seven cup games at national and international level.

On July 8, 2019, Yuri Ribeiro moved to English second division Nottingham Forest . There he met his former teammates João Carvalho and Alfa Semedo . The latter switched to Tricky Trees on the same day in a one-year loan deal . At his new club he had to line up behind Jack Robinson first . He played his first game in the championship on September 14, 2019 (7th matchday) in a 1-0 away win against Swansea City . In the first half of the season he was the substitute in left full defense behind Robinson and played seven league games. After his departure to Sheffield United , he was promoted to the starting line-up by head coach Sabri Lamouchi . In total, he played 27 league games in his first season with the Garibaldi Reds . Due to a weak phase at the end of this, he missed a place in the promotion play-offs with Forest.

National team

For the Portuguese U16 national team , he played ten international matches from 2012 to 2013. In May 2014 he took part with the U17s in the 2014 U17 European Championship in Malta , where he was used in all four games of the selection. He played a total of 15 games for the U17s, in which he scored a goal. From February to June 2015, he made five international matches for the U18s .

He has been working for the U19s since September 2015 . In July 2016 he took part in the U19 European Championship 2016 in Germany with this selection . At the tournament he was used in all four games.

From November 2016 to June 2017 Yuri Ribeiro played 10 times for the U20 . In the summer of 2017 he took part in the U20 World Cup in South Korea , where he played all five international matches. He was already in action for the U21s in September 2016 and had 13 international matches by November 2018.

Yuri Ribeiro's older brother Romeu is also a professional soccer player. Like Yuri, he comes from the offspring of Benfica Lisbon and has been under contract with FC Penafiel since July 2016 .
