NGC 4783 is an 11.7 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 pec in the constellation Raven . It is an estimated 173 million light years from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on March 27, 1786 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who marked it with “Two [NGC 4782 & 4783]; both cB, cS, R, mbM. Distance 1 ′ near meridian chevelure mixed ”.
