NGC 4781 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 52 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light-years across. Together with NGC 4784 , it forms the galaxy pair Holm 483 .
The galaxies NGC 4757 , NGC 4760 , NGC 4766 , NGC 4790 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 25, 1786 .
